Hello everybody!
Jesus Christ is risen! Alleluia! Alleluia! It is this victory that gives us hope, trusting in God’s mercy poured out for us from the cross, in eternal life. I awoke on Monday to the unexpected news, especially for me after his public ministry on Easter Sunday, of Pope Francis’s death. While we rightly mourn his loss and pray for the repose of his soul, we have confidence that where Jesus has gone, we will follow. We sent a notice earlier about the Mass of Thanksgiving for the Life of Pope Francis at the Cathedral of the Assumption tonight at 6:00 p.m. Archbishop Shelton will preside, but, as the Vicar General, I will be celebrating confirmations tonight at St. Aloysius so that he is able to do so. May Pope Francis rest in God’s eternal love. Amen.
I am grateful to all who helped make our community celebration of the Easter Triduum such a beautiful, moving, and worthy experience. Thank you! I am also grateful for all who participated in any of our liturgies. Your participation is a sign of the vibrancy and vitality of our community and of the Holy Spirit within us. It is my pleasure, as well, to once again warmly welcome and congratulate those who were fully initiated into the Catholic Church at the Easter Vigil, whether baptized or received into full communion. It was so wonderful to share their joy! Our celebration of Easter continues through the Octave of Easter, which concludes with Divine Mercy Sunday, and extends through the Easter Season to our celebration of Pentecost. I invite you to our Divine Mercy celebration next Sunday at 3:00 p.m. Please see below for more information.
My gratitude everyone who prayerfully discerned their financial support for our parish community and the mission entrusted to us by God. Thank you for returning a commitment card or making a commitment online. If you were unable to do so yet, there is still time to participate in this important initiative. I am humbled by your support, generosity, and sacrifice. Thank you!
Finally, I would like to ask for your additional prayers for those who will receive their first communion on this Friday evening. They have been preparing diligently for this important step in their faith journey and moment of profound grace and encounter with Jesus. May their Hearst be open to receiving Jesus in holy communion for the first time.
May the light of the Risen Christ illuminate our hearts and guide our paths. Jesus Christ is risen. He is risen indeed!
Peace,
Fr. Jeff
