Construction Updates

MacArthur Boulevard

Since the barrier on the east side of the bridge was demolished in January, crews are making progress on building the abutments and columns.

Edinger Avenue

Contractors are expected to focus on the Edinger Avenue bridge this summer. Piles of dirt (pictured) initiates the settlement period, which allows the soil to compact before demolition begins.

Retaining Walls

Contractors are working on about a half-dozen retaining walls with several more planned to start in the coming months. This work includes excavating, building forms, installing rebar, and pouring concrete.

Lane Channel

Demolition and installation of shoring on the west side of the channel will continue through the end of May. This work will continue intermittently through 2025.

About the Project

OCTA, in cooperation with Caltrans, is improving 4 miles of SR-55 between I-405 and I-5. The project will improve traffic flow and reduce travel time by adding one regular lane and one carpool lane in each direction. Also, the project will add merge lanes between several interchanges and stripe carpool lanes for continuous access, augmenting safety on the freeway by making merging easier. These enhancements are expected to create a better, smoother driving experience for motorists.
