Welcoming Our New Executive Director Susan Evans McClure
The Vermont Arts Council is excited to welcome new Executive Director Susan Evans McClure who began on May 8. As executive director, Evans McClure will lead the organization’s efforts to expand arts opportunities, cultivate creative placemaking, and energize the creative economy across Vermont.

Vermont Arts Council, Vermont Community Foundation Join Together to Support the State’s Creative Sector
Recognizing the power of the arts to educate and inspire, the Vermont Arts Council and the Vermont Community Foundation are pleased to announce another allocation of funding to support the state’s creative sector through a philanthropic partnership established three years ago.

The funding will help artists follow their inspiration and create new work. It will also support arts organizations, municipalities, and schools that strive to provide equal and abundant access to the arts in Vermont.

Vermont Arts Council Distributes Over $3.2M in Creative Sector Support, Opens Final Round of Funding 
The Vermont Arts Council announces $3,220,000 in awards to 99 creative sector organizations and businesses in its second round of funding through the Creative Futures Grant program. The final round is currently open for applications. 

Funding of up to $200,000 is available to Vermont-based creative economy nonprofits and for-profit entities, including sole proprietors, that can demonstrate economic harm caused by or exacerbated by the pandemic.

Vermont Arts Council Announces FY23 Public Art Grants
On April 27, the recipients of this year's Animating Infrastructure grants were announced.

Strengthening the connection between people and place, the award-winning projects of the Vermont Art Council’s 2023 Animating Infrastructure program promise to bring vibrancy and vitality to their communities through public art.

The Creative Segment Leader Spotlight series explores the seven Creative Segments that comprise Vermont’s diverse creative sector by shining a spotlight on the people who work within them. 

Martha Fitch of Montpelier is the executive director of Vermont Crafts Council, a nonprofit whose mission is to create and enhance an appreciation among the public of the quality, beauty, and history of Vermont crafts and artwork to encourage and sustain the creation of original craft and artwork in Vermont.

Council Grant Opportunities
Arts Project Grants

Arts Project Grants (formerly Arts Impact Grants) support nonprofit organizations, municipalities, and schools in their efforts to add vibrancy to Vermont communities by providing equal and abundant access to the arts.

Deadline: May 15, 2023
Animating Infrastructure Grants

Animating Infrastructure Grants support community projects that integrate art with infrastructure improvements. Through this program, the Council strives to demonstrate the positive impact of art in helping communities to meet goals of livability, walkability, safety, economic vitality, and community vibrancy, and to support the creation of unique infrastructure projects where function and art are one and the same.

Deadline: June 1, 2023
Creative Futures Grants

The aim of this program is to provide aid to creative sector organizations and businesses that continue to struggle financially due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. These funds are for any regular operating expenses, including but not limited to payroll and benefits, utilities, rent, and insurance.

Deadline: June 30, 2023
Coming Soon: Artists in Schools Grants

Artists in Schools Grants support quality, multiday arts experiences in schools with Vermont teaching artists in residence and encourage collaborations between schools, youth, artists, and arts organizations. Residencies may take place during the school day or in a sequential, after-school setting. Grant funding supports multi-day projects typically between 3-10 days in length and support preK-12 teachers and students within a given school or district.

Congratulations to the grand prize winner of the 2023 Congressional Arts Competition, Shakeh Hagopian from Montpelier High School, pictured here with her winning artwork alongside Rep. Becca Balint. Hagopian's art will be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol building.
Performing Arts Readiness is offering a series of free webinars this spring and summer related to emergency preparedness for performing arts organizations. Upcoming topics include safety and security, crisis communication, and hostile activity at venues.
