READINGS FOR THE FIFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
PRACTICE OF CHARITY
Although the Book of Job doesn't explain suffering, the text invites us to talk with God about the pain we see and might be dealing with. As we hear in the Gospel passage, our loving God cares about our health and well-being.
- Bring into your mind the times you have suffered physically or mentally. Talk openly with God about how you feel about your suffering.
- Spend some time praying for people you know who are in pain. Offer them your loving compassion. Send a card or a note to one of those people, telling them you are keeping the individual in your prayers.
- St. Paul writes that, as a symbol of God's freely given love, he refuses to accept financial support for his ministry. This week look or signs of God's love and celebrate them at the end of each day.
We are doing our best to continue to provide a safe space to worship for everyone. Click here to see current COVID safety measures.
Live Stream Mass on the weekend is currently during the Saturday 5:00pm Vigil Mass. Beginning in Lent we will switch to live streaming the Sunday 9:00am Mass.

Bring an Item Challenge:
When you come to church (every time or once a week, it's up to you) bring an item, food or paper goods, and drop it in the St. Vincent de Paul donation box. Something that works for a parishioner is to purchase one or two extra items when she shops. She leaves them in her car and takes it with her when she comes into church. The donation box will always be full! Items most needed include: canned fruit, canned vegetables (not corn or green beans), baking products, cooking oil, ketchup, and mayonnaise. If you haven't decided what to do for Lent, this might be an idea for you. Once it becomes a habit, you may not want to stop. Challenge yourself! Thanks to all who already bring an item for the St. Vincent de Paul donation box on a regular basis!

PRAYING THE MASS
Listening to God's Word
| |
Sometimes, the scripture readings we hear in Church can seem far away. They arose out of another community, another time and place.
But when the scriptures are proclaimed in the Church, we are not just retelling old stories. This is not about history; this is about now. The scriptures are God speaking to us today.
As you listen to the readings, try to put yourself in the story. Imagine the time, the place, the people. Hear the words as though for the first time. Who do you identify with? What questions do the readings raise for you? Are there words that console you? Are there words you find it challenging to listen to? That's where God is speaking to you through the Scriptures.
The Church teaches that "Christ himself speaks when the Scriptures are proclaimed in the Church." Christ is speaking - so let us listen.

THE NEWLYWED GAME
Saturday, February 10 after the 5:00pm Mass
| |
To celebrate “World Marriage Day,” the Cana Commission would like to host happy hour with appetizers and “The Newlywed Game!” Couples of all ages and stages are invited. Your grooviest 70’s outfit encouraged! Free childcare provided! $20 per couple at the door, and there will be some fun prizes!
The Cana Commission honored couples married 50+ years last year on World Marriage Day. We are blessed with so many couples living out this Sacrament in our parish. This year we want to honor and acknowledge couples who have been married 15 years or less, because it gives us hope. Many young couples are choosing not to make a lifelong commitment in faith to each other. So, ALL COUPLES living out this commitment of hope, faith, and trust in God and in each other, please join us!
Every couple will play the game from their seats and join in on the fun. Couples married 15 years or less will place their names in a basket if they want a chance to be one of the four couples to play in front of the audience for our GRAND PRIZE, which is a $200 gift card for an overnight stay at the Hyatt and a $200 gift card to Daniel’s Broiler, both conveniently located in Bellevue Place. By the way, Daniel’s has a great happy hour in the main lounge with live piano entertainment, and an awesome coconut fudge sundae!
