This Sunday in Worship From Pastor Jill:
What does it mean to follow Jesus in a world where so many other movements and causes tempt us to be part of the crowd? On this Palm Sunday come and reflect on what it means to join in a parade with world-changing potential.
We will gather at 10:30 a.m. outside the west entry for the Palm Sunday parade, which will include a real donkey!
Sermon: "Rebel with a Cause: Joining the Parade"
Scripture reading: Matthew 21:1-11

Sacred Places Fundraiser: Hanging Baskets
Act now! This Sunday is the last chance to pre-order your hanging baskets! Stop by our table in the west entry this Sunday, April 13, to pre-order ferns and hanging flower baskets ($25, $35, and $40). The flowers will be available for pick up on May 4 – just in time for Mothers Day.

Worship and Arts
Join Us for Palm Sunday and Holy Week
Join us this Sunday for our Palm Sunday services at 8:30 and 11 a.m. The 11 a.m. service will feature music by the Choristers children's choir and a processional with palm branches to commemorate the entrance of Jesus into Jerusalem for the start of Holy Week. This year's service will begin with a short parade around the community (with a donkey!) before we enter the sanctuary for worship. Please assemble for the parade at 10:30 a.m. outside the west entry.
Next week is the most important week of the church year — Holy Week. We will have our short weekly communion service at 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday (April 16) in the chapel.
On Thursday (April 17) we will commemorate the day Jesus celebrated the Last Supper with his disciples during our Holy Thursday service at 7:30 p.m. in the chapel and courtyard. Join us for an intimate experience of the Last Supper with special liturgy, readings, and music that culminates in the courtyard as we remember his fateful night in the Garden of Gethsemane. The liturgy for this service has been specially written for our congregation, and the music will be presented by Voices in Accord.
On Good Friday (April 18) we will have two services. We will host a noon Good Friday service in the chapel that will feature intercessory prayers for our community. The church office will be closed in the afternoon. In the evening, join the Cathedral Singers and organist Dr. Heather Hinton for a 7:30 p.m. service in the sanctuary that will feature scripture readings, hymns, and anthems commemorating the crucifixion and death of Jesus.
On Easter (Sunday, April 20), celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ with a joyful and festive worship experience. We will offer communion at our 8:30 a.m. service. At 11 a.m. the Carolers and the Cathedral Singers will share special music. Our Easter offering will go to the Umoja Partnership. (See separate story under "Mission and Outreach.") We hope to see you there, and all are welcome!

Mission and Outreach
We're Collecting New Underwear Throughout April
North's shower ministry for the homeless offers a warm shower, a moment of peace, and a reminder that each person is valued and loved. As we continue this ministry we would like to take it a step further by providing clean underwear to our guests. Throughout April we will collect new packages of men's and women’s underwear in sizes small through extra large. A gray bin has been set up in the west entry where items can be dropped off. Your generosity reflects our commitment to the community to serve and care for others. Thank you for being the hands and feet of Christ, sharing his love in practical ways.

Easter Offering Will Be Designated for Umoja Partnership
Our Easter offering will go to the Umoja Partnership, an outreach effort of many different faith communities, including North, which strives to help the children of Chulaimbo, Kenya, stay in school. Approximately 20 percent of these children have lost one or both parents. You can learn more here. Please indicate "Easter offering/Umoja" on your check memo line, and please give generously.
Angela Ockerman Jones will tell us more this Sunday morning, including things like the Umoja Partnership’s food security program is among the largest services provided to these students, as well as the most costly. The food security program includes school lunches for 5,288 students in 21 schools, and weekend and holiday food support for 150 child-headed households. Specifically, North's Easter offering provides support for the Wandega Primary School's school lunches and child-headed households.

Green Hint:
Switch to Recycled Toilet Paper
About 27,000 trees are cut down every day to make toilet paper. Switching to recycled toilet paper is a sustainable choice. Recycled versions use 28-70 percent less energy and don’t use virgin resources. Buying a paper-wrapped toilet paper uses less plastic packaging too. So the next time you buy toilet paper, buy an eco-brand.
