Other ways United Methodist congregations are asked to focus on the following mission and service efforts:

PRAY. Pray for the people of affected areas and first responders and agencies managing damage assessment.

LEARN. UMCOR has processed an initial grant to International Blue Crescent, a longstanding UMCOR partner, to help provide tents, heaters, blankets, warm clothes, ready to eat meals and first aid kits to those who have been displaced. Learn more about UMCOR’s response including a short video. Stay connected by following Global Ministries Facebook page.

GIVE. Support relief and recovery efforts for this and other international disasters by donating UMCOR’s Advance # 982450

United Methodist Committee on Relief special Sunday offering will take place this Sunday, March 19. This special Sunday offering fund the administrative costs for the UMCOR projects around the world. Because of this, every dollar that you give to Advance special offerings goes to that their designated areas. We ask that you bring just “A Dollar More” to the share on UMCOR

Sunday. Envelopes will be available in the pews.

Friday, March 17th

Dear Friends,

Whether it’s right or wrong, my husband Steve and I have a theory about identifying the most reliable source for help in hardware stores and computer stores. In the hardware store we look for the person with some grey in their hair, because at their age, they would have lots of experience doing household repairs. If you are in the computer store, it’s best to seek out the person who still has some acne to help you with your tech questions because they are the most current with technology.

BUT within the Maplewood UMC congregation, some of the people who have taken on leadership roles in in technology are the age of the folks we would seek out for help at the hardware store. Go figure!

We might not expect older folks to be working at the tech table, or younger folks to be giving advice on plumbing repairs. According to the scripture we will read this Sunday, a homeless rabbi is NOT the one who was expected to give sight to a man who had been blind from birth. But that’s what Jesus did.

This Sunday we will explore how our preconceived notions about someone’s (including Jesus’) role in life can get shaken up as we receive God’s love in surprising ways. It will be a Sunday for celebration.

God’s grace and peace be with you,

Pastor Kim

Each year, as a part of our church budget, we pay apportionments that help pay the expenses of our Conference and District. They also help to pay for the ministries of the United Methodist Church. This year as we have in the past few years we have paid those apportionments in full in January. We appreciate the faithfulness of all in the congregation who through their giving help to pay our apportionments early in the year.

We have exciting news to share!

Maplewood United Methodist Church will be hosting Freedom School aftercare this summer from June 20 through July 28. Our aftercare will be a safe, nurturing, fun, empowering, intergenerational community environment for Freedom School scholars and their families which will feed the mind, body, heart and spirit of all! The aftercare program will run from 3 to 6p.m. on the days of Freedom School.

Please prayerfully consider supporting this dream through your prayer and volunteering. Look for the Volunteer Sign Up this Sunday at church.
