RESEARCH, PUBLICATIONS & PRESENTATIONS

Associate Professor Teri Finneman and Assistant Professor Melissa Greene-Blye will speak at the National Press Club about The Eudora Times and "Good Morning Indian Country" the evening of Aug. 7.

Associate Professor Teri Finneman co-authored a recently released study, "A Discursive Evolution: Trade Publications Explain News Deserts to United States Journalists." The article can be found here.

Associate Professor Hong Vu and incoming doctoral student Huong Ha have had their extended abstract titled “Shamed, Embarrassed and Skeptical: How Inadvertently Sharing Fake News Influences Users’ Perceptions of the Information Environment and Social Media Use” accepted to the 2023 AEJMC conference. The study is based on the analysis of 20 in-depth interviews with users who had previously shared false information on their social media accounts.

Associate Professor Mugur Geana presented his work at the KU Celebration of Teaching, an event recognizing 25 years of the Center for Teaching Excellence's impact on the scholarship of teaching. His project, "Humanizing the Virtual Barrier," funded by a course-transformation grant from CTE, developed and tested a more student-centered approach to the development, presentation and learning assessment of online asynchronous courses at the graduate level. The proposed approach significantly increased student satisfaction and engagement with the course material, stimulated critical thinking and provided the instructor with continuous feedback that was used to tailor consecutive lectures. Dr. Geana pioneered a similar approach for the online undergraduate courses he taught during the pandemic.
