Mary Magdalene Church
~Weekly Update~
| Mary Magdalene Church is an inclusive church in the Catholic tradition where people from all faiths and backgrounds are welcome to the Lord’s table. We strive to live the values that Jesus taught, to honor and respect each individual and to share the joy of God’s unconditional love in our community and beyond. | |

| | ~A Message From the Social Justice Team~ |
Dear Denise,
"HANDS OFF" National Mobilization
You may already be aware of this gathering, but due to the urgency, duplication = reinforcement since it's URGENT that as many people attend as possible. The greater Rochester area will join the nationwide "Hands Off!" mass mobilization on Saturday, April 5th, 2:00 PM @ Cobbs Hill Park as we build a peaceful, visible and joyful answer to Trump and Musk's cruelty and recklessness. Peaceful protest has led to major social change in American history and disrupted authoritarianism globally.
Please spread the word and for those of you not near/in Rochester, there are hundreds of similar events throughout the country that same day ... just go to handsoff2025.com to get the info.
The authoritarian takeover of the Trump regime is happening before our eyes and underneath our feet ... your presence will show to our newly minted Dictator that the overwhelming majority of the country wants to preserve our almost 250 year-old democracy.

DID YOU KNOW?
President Trump invoked the Alien Enemies Act to hastily deport Venezuelan migrants in an appalling grasp for power, a flagrant abuse of human rights with no recognition of due process. The act has only ever been used in official war time, the declaration of which is a power uniquely given to Congress; the U.S. is not currently at war. Its purpose is to target people for detention and deportation based solely on their nation of origin and without a hearing. The act was used in the War of 1812, World War I, and most notoriously in World War II to create concentration camps in the United States for Japanese immigrants.
Senator Hirono of Hawai’i has introduced S.193, the Neighbors Not Enemies Act, a simple, one-line bill that repeals the entire Alien Enemies Act. There are currently seven co-sponsors, but it will need significantly more support to gain any real ground in the public discourse and in Congress.
Please contact your senators, thanking those who’ve already taken a public stance of support and urging the rest to eliminate this misguided tool of anti-immigrant sentiment and oppression. Let’s work together to welcome everyone!
ON GOING...
Please remember are on going need for Welcome Food Kits and/or Welcome Cleaning Kits. The lists are on the table near Sue’s office. Whenever you have one to give, just place them in the sacristy. A member of the Social Justice Committee will get them to WORLD RELIEF-WNY. Always, thank you for your generosity in supporting the mission to help refugees coming into Western New York!!!
COMING SOON...
We are almost ready to publish our Resources for Support and Safety collection. This resource page will list current Hotline numbers, programs and contact information for organizations that support Disability, LGBTQI and Allies, Immigration and Migrants, Unhomed/Houseless Help, Mental Health, Alcohol/Drug Abuse, Racial Discrimination, Bereavement Support, Domestic Violence, and Food Assistance. We will be completing this in the next few weeks and will let you know when the page has been added to our website.

CALM Ministry
CALM Ministry is a ministry of listening. We believe the gift of listening helps to alleviate suffering and that the gift of presence is one of the greatest gifts we can offer another. If you are hurting or lonely, we have trained soul-listeners who offer time and space to truly listen in a confidential and non-judgmental manner. CALM Ministers are not counselors and do not offer advice. They do, however, offer a warm heart and a soft landing place. For more information, please see our brochure, or email Lori Cunliff at calm.ministry.mm@gmail.com
