The Messenger of St. Mark's | Trinity Sunday | June 2, 2023

For your thought:

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

--Matthew 28:19-20

SAINT MARK'S MISSION & OUTREACH

St. Mark’s Summer of Conversation 2023

Summer of Conversation Clergy Q&A

Sunday, June 4th at 11:15

In-person only in the Parish Hall

Last Sunday, we held a training for Summer of Conversation. The Summer of Conversation helps us stretch our immediate circles of friends and gives us a chance to strengthen the relational fabric of our parish. Mo. Sylvia, Fr. Christopher and Deacon David will be available after coffee hour on Sunday to hold a Question-and-Answer forum for those wanting to know more about The Summer of Conversation and how to be a part of it. This will also contain additional training for anyone who was at last week's training.

Summer of Conversation Topical Group Conversations - Sign Up!

The “backbone” of St. Mark’s annual Summer of Conversation is intentional, one-on-one conversations, AKA “relational meetings.” In addition to encouraging participation in “one-on-one” conversations throughout the summer, we welcome individuals to convene and facilitate group conversations around particular topics or areas of shared interest on Sundays after church in the library. If you would be interested in convening and facilitating an informal conversation around a topic or area of interest to you, please talk to a member of the clergy and sign up on the clipboard in the narthex.

New! Sacred Arts Guild Climate Show

Come check out the new show, "Climate Change: Our Fragile Earth", our Sacred Arts Gallery Exhibit in the Parish Hall. It will be on display during office hours and on Sundays through September 2, 2023.

Artists were provided this prompt before embarking on their creative process for this show:

In our faith tradition, God calls us to be stewards of his creation and St. Mark's Episcopal Church continues to work on finding solutions to the climate crisis in our world. One of the ways to change hearts and minds is to focus on the beauty and fragility of our ecosystem. Another is to highlight problems and propose solutions. Artists are uniquely positioned to both challenge and encourage through their works of art. We hope that this call for art highlights new perspectives and inspires a growing community of people working towards climate solutions.

Summer Choir

Beginning on Sunday, June 11th, the choir will be on summer break from midweek rehearsals. Each Sunday from June 11th until mid-August a "summer choir" will gather at 8:45 a.m. to prepare to lead the music for each Sunday service. Everyone is welcome to join in the summer choir, whether or not you sing in the choir during the rest of the year. Please join us! Questions? Contact our Choir Director, Jeremy, via email here.

Summer Small Group: Sunday Evenings with “The Chosen”

“The Chosen” is a crowd-funded TV series on the life of Jesus and his followers. St. Mark’s will show the first four episodes followed by a short discussion on Sundays in June from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Cecil B. Fish Courtyard or the Library (weather-determined). Bring a snack or dessert to share (optional). For information on the series, you may find the trailer on YouTube here. Please sign up at the welcome table in the entrance area or email Mother Sylvia via email here or Jennifer Lind (our Parish Administrator) via email here.

Building Renewal Committee Update

 Alleluia!

The Building Renewal Committee has found commensurate passion in our potential architectural firms in our quest to Build Something Beautiful. During discussion to reach consensus on the strengths the firms would bring, real excitement filled the room -- Father Christopher described his reaction akin tongues of flame at Pentecost! We were filled with excitement, confidence, and renewed commitment.

As reported earlier, one firm withdrew from consideration. Accordingly, we have added a final interview as soon as this week with a well-qualified firm that has the benefit of the principal being a highly regarded and experienced professional woman. Part of our job is to ensure we have perspectives that vary. Certainly, the female perspective in a professional world more dominated by men helps us in many ways. We have learned much from each firm, and having three firms who advanced from a considerable list allows us to assure our Community that we’re doing our due diligence.

We’ve kept our enthusiasm for the work we’re doing, and these interviews have proved were on the right course. We plan to recommend a firm to the Vestry at its July 27 meeting.

Stay tuned.

Alleluia!
