Office News

Supplies Needed

Parents,

With allergy season in full swing and other viruses going around, we are low on tissues. We want to keep all our students healthy and provide this necessary item to them. Also, departments are running low on AA and AAA batteries. If you can any of the items listed above, we would greatly appreciate it.

Upcoming Spinal Screenings

I will be conducting Spinal Screenings on all 7th grade girls and 8th grade boys who are not in athletics during the second week of April. Texas State law requires that schools must screen students for abnormal spinal curvature. The 8th grade boys will be screened during their Social Studies class on Tuesday, April 11. The 7th grade girls will be screened on Thursday, April 13 during their PE or Dragon Den class. Students will be screened individually with the nurse and an assistant to help with the screenings.

Please help prepare your student for the screening by reminding them of the date of the screening and having them bring/wear clothing appropriate to be screened in. The DSHS recommends that boys and girls wear or bring shorts for screenings, and girls to wear or bring a two-piece swimsuit top, halter top, or sports bra for screenings.

If your child has recently been screened, is under the care of a physician, or you wish to not have your child screened please send in recent screening results and/or your wish to exclude your child from screenings. You may send recent results/exclusion notes to madison.pimpo@southlakecarroll.edu

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Thank you!

Nurse Madison

Gifted and Talented Identification Process

The window has opened for current CISD students who wish to sign up for qualification for gifted and talented services. Students will be assessed initially using the CogAT and ITBS tests. Please see the schedule below to plan your family’s schedule. Students must take all 4 tests. There are no preparation materials available for these assessments. In addition to the testing, students entering grades 7 and 8 who have not yet been identified as gifted and talented must be nominated by a parent, teacher, counselor, community member, or themselves. It is not necessary for a student who is already identified as gifted and talented in Carroll ISD to participate in testing again.

If you are requesting information on Gifted and Talented testing, please see the announcement sent in the DIS parent email, posted on the CMS Webpage and Course Selection page or on the district Gifted and Talented page. Information regarding the differences between Gifted and Talented vs. Advanced placement is located on the district website or the CMS course selection page. Once the testing sign-up window is closed, parents will receive additional testing information through email.
