Announcing New Co-Chairs and Jr. Co-Chairs
NGCP is thrilled to announce the appointment of our new co-chairs and junior co-chairs for the Youth Advisory Board. We have chosen four exceptional young leaders to guide our work in engaging and empowering young people. Our co-chairs are Sandra Y. (Carmel, IN) and Madeleine N. (Pittsburg, PA). Our junior co-chairs are Mary A. (Houston, TX) and Melissa L. (Ruston, LA).

Learn to be an Ally to Girls and Women in STEM

NASA’s Astrophoto Challenge
Youth of all ages are encouraged to join NASA’s Universe of Learning and participate in the Summer 2023 NASA’s Astrophoto Challenge. Participants will capture their own telescope image of the Phantom Galaxy or work with NASA's images. Youth will engage in scientific practices through accessible data tools and experiences, and their work may receive feedback from NASA scientists. Enter the challenge.

June is National Zoo and Aquarium Month
The Association of Zoos and Aquariums provides a collection of links including Educator Resources. Many of the websites have educational resources such as videos, wildlife facts, lesson plans, and activities.

NEW from SciGirls
SciGirls invites children nationwide to explore science in the great outdoors! The PBS KIDS series’ seventh and final season, SciGirls in the Parks, takes viewers on a journey of America’s national and state park system, highlighting the adventures of curious, smart, and creative kid scientists. From observing fireflies in South Carolina to cataloging marine animals on the Alaska Coast to leading trash clean-ups on the banks of the Mississippi River, these real-life SciGirls pitch in to improve their communities. SciGirls’ animated characters Izzie and Jake are along for the ride, using STEM to solve problems, help people, and have fun! These five new episodes are available on PBS KIDS and TPT.org/SciGirls
Additionally, in June, SciGirls will release a 30-minute special, Black Women in STEM, featuring five Black women scientists who are innovators, problem-solvers and STEM superstars who honor their racial identity and cultures. The Genius of Play
NGCP partnered with The Genius of Play to develop activities that spark children's interest in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM). The STEAM playbook gives parents and educators tools that are easily set up with materials you can find at home or in the classroom. The STEAM playbook was designed with learners of all ages in mind and is complete with tips for modifying activities to challenge young minds with different levels of complexity

Connected Girls is your go-to directory of girl-serving STEAM opportunities. It’s a free and curated resource that connects aspiring young women with exciting STEAM experiences. Thanks to our collaboration with Science Near Me, an NSF-funded initiative, anyone anywhere in the U.S. can access engaging STEAM opportunities.
