PRACTICE OF FAITH
"Do not let your hearts be troubled." These are difficult words for many people to adhere to. It is hard not to be anxious when suffering and sadness enter our lives. Jesus' words in the Gospel are not comparable to an ancient version of modern self-help guides. Our Lord chose to enter into the world's brokenness to reconcile all things to himself. He asks us to be part of this healing work, even when it seems too difficult. He tells us to ask for what we need and he will do it. Set aside a few minutes today to approach Jesus with a deep need. Make your request and trust that Jesus will give it to you.
Please continue to self-screen. Stay home if you are not feeling well and celebrate Mass with us via livestream. We are doing our best to continue to provide a safe space to worship for everyone. Click here to see current COVID safety measures.

RED CEDAR TREE FOR EARTH DAY
|
|
Look for our newly planted red cedar tree in the northeast corner of our property. Thank you to Fr. Vu for the special blessing, the Social Justice Committee for bringing the tree to SJV, and Glen Rollman for his guidance in how to plant and care for the tree.
A Prayer for the Care of the Earth
God our Father and Creator, we give you thanks
for the wonder of creation which inspires us,
The fruit of the Earth which feeds us,
The beauty of nature which grounds us,
And the joy of life which gives us hope.
Heal the places where your creation has been marred,
And restore all creatures to the splendor of your glory,
That all may delight once again in your goodness.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Thank you to all volunteers and Styrofoam donors who came out to support our Styrofoam Recycling Event on Sunday. Together with Holy Family Kirkland we filled a 20’ rental truck with Styrofoam, which SJV parishioners Bob & Shari McCornack delivered to Styro Recycle in Kent. Styro Recycle will process the Styrofoam for manufacturers to be made into plastic products such as picture frames, light switch and outlet covers, crown molding and electronic cases. Thank you for keeping it out of our landfills!

ADOPT-A-GARDEN BED
Bed of the Month for April - Colin & Leoni Radford
|
|
So often after mass there is quick exit to the parking lot and a hurry home. Why not take an extra few minutes and wander the grounds before you head for your cars to go home. A wonderful job was done on the landscape here at SJV before Easter and now shrubs are starting to bloom. Many of the rhododendrons are late in blooming this year because of the weather, but now the color is coming out. Take some time to enjoy. Don’t miss the beautiful work done around the statue of Mary. Wonderful efforts on the bed around the statue of Mary, Colin and Leoni.
Join the program and pick out a spot on our property to beautify. This has become a very successful and rewarding program to everyone, especially from the pride you feel from working in our beautiful gardens to make them even better! Contact Tony, tzimrman@yahoo.com or 425-823-9036.

PARTNERS IN THE GOSPEL UPDATE
|
|
The Partners in the Gospel consultative process for parish family configurations has officially begun.
PartnersEdge, consultants who have worked with several other dioceses, delivered “Draft Zero” of potential parish family configurations based on their data analysis. Specifically, PartnersEdge reviewed parish annual report data as well as priest numbers, parish locations and map data to develop this draft.
“Draft Zero” was then reviewed by the Partners Oversight Committee and the Presbyteral Council to provide input that reflects “on the ground” realities in addition to the data. This process was grounded in prayer and much discernment as the groups examined the potential configurations, reviewed historical relationships, identified multicultural communities, discussed travel and commuting challenges and much more. This additional input was collected to refine the potential parish family configurations with the understanding that the input was not for the final draft, but instead to develop “Draft One” for the next phase of consultation with all the priests in the archdiocese.
Priests will have two different opportunities to review and provide feedback before the next draft is developed for feedback and input by parish and school staff and all Catholics later this fall.

EVENING OF EDUCATION AND ENCOURAGEMENT TO FIGHT THE STIGMA OF MENTAL ILLNESS
|
|
There are over 54 million Americans being affected by mental illness every year. These are people who are experiencing a mental illness or care about someone who is. This includes people we may know at work, our neighborhood and/or our church. The stigma of mental illness can cause people to isolate which can makes things worse. As part of Mental Health Awareness month, the HFK Mental Health ministry has put together a panel of professionals in the mental health field and people who are living with a mental health diagnosis. They will speak about their experiences and be able to answer questions so that we can learn how to end the stigma and grow in understanding.
Panel members include:
- Janie Stevens - Depression and Anxiety disorder
- Anisa Ralls M.A., L.M.H.C. - St. James Cathedral Parish Mental Health and Wellness Ministry Director
- Joe Cotton - Archdiocese Outreach Administrator and Seattle Archdiocese Mental Health Board Member
- Ellen McMahon - Psy D, MBA Meiers Clinics
- David Shaner - Counselor specializing in anxiety and depression
- Joe Stevens - member of NAMI, Archdiocesan Mental Health Board and HFK Mental Health Ministry
