Thank you for being a cherished part of our Habitat community! As we celebrate the season of love, we're reminded that the most precious gifts are those of compassion, connection, and belonging. Your dedication is a testament to the power of love in action and your support means the world to us.

Introducing Our Newest Future Homeowners

This January, we welcomed 11 new families into the Habitat community, all working toward their dreams of homeownership! We're thrilled to introduce these hardworking individuals who are not only dedicated to building their own homes but also to supporting our community in various impactful roles.

Among our newly approved applicants are individuals working in social services, serving as teacher assistants, contributing to the Monroe County Community School Corporation, and excelling in restoration professions, just to name a few.

Over the next 18 to 24 months, our new future homeowners will embark on an incredible journey, earning 250 hours of "sweat equity" each. This involves actively participating in building not only their own homes but also the homes of others. From construction tasks to volunteering at ReStore, working closely with their budget partners, and attending monthly classes, they will gain skills and and make new, special connection along the way. As one future homeowner aptly put it, "I'm getting so much more than a house."

We are enormously thrilled to welcome each of them and their families into the Habitat family! Together, we will continue to build stronger, more vibrant communities for all.

Youth Sweat Equity

We believe in empowering our homeowners and their families every step of the way. That's why we're proud to offer a unique opportunity for our Habitat children to earn their own sweat equity and actively participate in building their future homes!

At present, we have 41 children aged 5 to 17 earning sweat equity. Achieving 25 hours of sweat equity comes with a special privilege for children—they get to choose the paint color for their room!

Through engaging youth-specific classes and special projects, Habitat kids have the chance to learn and grow alongside their parents while working toward their home. Just last month, our young builders had a blast building their own mini versions of homes under the guidance of Construction Site Supervisor Sarah. From foundations to trusses and landscaping, they got hands-on experience in every aspect of home construction.

We're committed to nurturing skills, confidence, and pride in our Habitat families, and that includes our youngest members. If you're interested in teaching a youth class, reach out to Emma at schreier@monroecountyhabitat.org and Fiona at goldman@monroecountyhabitat.org.

Service Branch Build February 21, 22 & 24

Join us for a special volunteer opportunity as we bring together military veterans and active duty military service members, as well as their supporters, to celebrate their contributions both locally and beyond. All are invited to join us in building alongside future homeowner and veteran, Aisha!

This event not only honors the courage and commitment of those who have served and continue to serve, but also fosters a sense of support and unity among fellow veterans, military service members, and their supporters. If you are interested and available, come build with us!

Expanded Payment Options Make Supporting Habitat Even Easier

To make supporting Habitat even easier, we've added new payment methods to our online giving platform! You can now give with a credit card, bank transfer, PayPal, Venmo, or using your digital wallet based on your preference. The platform has not changed - just your options!

The last question on our donation form comes with a little button that has a big impact - "I'd like to cover the fees associated with my donation so more of my donation goes directly to Habitat for Humanity of Monroe County." Our technology comes with a cost to process each gift, and we greatly appreciate all who choose to take their support to the next level by keeping the button marked and the fee covered.

For those who would rather skip the fees altogether, we happily accept checks of support via mail or drop-off to our office. For monthly donors, you can also call the office to provide your bank information to set up a fee-less monthly gift directly between our banks! If you have any questions, concerns, or feedback, contact Lindsey Boswell at boswell@monroecountyhabitat.org or 812-331-4069.
