From The Pastor
2 Timothy 1:7
for God did not give us a spirit of cowardice, but rather a spirit of power and of love and of self-discipline.
Ruth, Camryn, Sarah and I all jumped into the car and drove to Newton this past month to attend (and lead) the Middle School and High School Midwinter Retreat at the Christian Conference Center. While there, we all got to learn more about listening to God, looking out for God, and speaking up for God.
It was my pleasure to teach two small groups on “how to read the Bible.”
Honestly, this was not the most exciting small group topic they could choose from. But 22 of the 53 kids chose to attended this not-so-exciting small group study and you need to know, the future is in good hands.
Some of the youth asked great questions, others shared really thoughtful answers, and there was even a little bit of excitement about all the ways they could search deeper into the context of God’s word.
There are so many discouraging messages out in the world, so I need you all to know something I learned: Our youth are smart, curious, and thoughtful about scriptures, our God, and how to be followers and spreaders of the Good News. Our future is going to be filled with those who have been gifted with the spirit of power and love and self-discipline.
Amen
