Happy May 1! This week's issue contains six new tutorials and reviews, plus updates to two more. To start, Peter recently asked me to write an article on how to optimize files for posting to YouTube (and other social media), download, streaming and USB drives. So, here you go!

Last week, I bought a bunch of new hardware. The first of my reviews looks at the Levitouch Dual Arm Monitor Mount. It's my first experience with VESA mounts and this system is totally worth a look.

Now that NAB is over, the news flow is a lot slower. Here's what I've got:

OWC released a number of new products, the most interesting of which is Jellyfish XT, a full, flash-based shared storage solution with up to 360TB (720TB with extension) usable storage and both 100Gb and 10Gb Ethernet connectivity. It is incredibly fast - especially for teams - but not inexpensive.

OWC also released Atlas Dual Slot CFexpress Type B and SD and Atlas Dual Slot SD card readers, with a heat-dissipating design, write-protect switch, and built-in USB-C cable that tucks neatly into the base.

Padcaster is launching a kickstarter campaign for the new Parrot Pro. This is a patented, ultra-compact, rugged, simple to use Teleprompter that transforms any IOS or Android smartphone into storytelling powerhouse.

Cinedeck announced ConneX, a no-code automation tool to help streamline integration with other cineXtools like transcode, trim, metadata edits, insert edit, audio versioning, and MAM check-in.

Innovative launched new VESA-compatible hardware for quickly attaching monitors up to 55 pounds to desktops and a battery-powered motorized gear cart for transferring heavy loads.

JVC released new PTZ camera joysticks, video switchers, and control surfaces. Their press release stated: "The addition of these affordable new production tools will enable budget conscious studios, venues and arenas to have high-quality, glass to glass workflow solutions."

Webinars will return next week - May 10. In the meantime, please email your suggestions on what you'd like me to cover.

My two latest webinars, creating clip speed changes in Apple Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premiere Pro, are now available in my store and Video Training Library. These were fun to present and provide a variety of ways to add arresting visuals without a lot of effort.

During NAB, BorisFX announced it had acquired CrumplePop, maker of AI-assisted audio repair tools. I'm a fan of CrumplePop, so this acquisition seemed like good news for both them and us. So, this week, I took a closer look at the latest version of their tools. If you want an easy way to make your audio sound a whole lot better in Final Cut, Premiere, Resolve and others, you need to read this.

For some reason, I was struck by the writing bug this week and have a LOT of new tutorials for you. To start, a reader asked how to burn-in timecode. So I have three tutorials that cover Final Cut, Compressor and Premiere.

Next, as part of my lead story on optimizing media for distribution, I needed to update my tutorial on why and how to optimize files for web site streaming. Called "HTTP Live Streaming," this converts movies into 10-second chunks so that as cell service bandwidth changes as you move, you don't lose the movie. Here's a deep dive in to this technology.

Finally, Gloria asked how to optimize Premiere Pro preferences. In looking over an article I wrote a few months ago, I realized that all my recommendations remain the same. So, for those that missed this the first time, here is it again.

My office is filled with several boxes of still-packed new hardware that I purchased last week. I'm always of two minds when getting new gear. I get excited about what the new stuff can do, but depressed about changing my current workflow. My current workflow works quite well, thank you. When I was younger, I got excited by the disruption learning new things provided. Now that I'm older, I wonder whether change is simply another word for aggravation. And, well, it is.

But, change is part of life these days. I can either sit back and grumble or unpack the boxes and see what the future holds. Smile... Tomorrow, I'm spending the day unpacking boxes. I'll let you know how it goes.

Until next week, stay healthy, stay hopeful and edit well.
