Professor Dorothy Roberts

2023 Conference Opening Plenary Speaker


Dorothy Roberts, is an acclaimed scholar of race, gender and the law at the University of Pennsylvania. As its 14th Penn Integrates Knowledge Professor with a joint appointment in the Department of Sociology and the Law School, she also holds the inaugural Raymond Pace and Sadie Tanner Mosell Alexander chair.


Her pathbreaking work in law and public policy focuses on urgent contemporary issues in health, social justice, and bioethics, especially as they impact the lives of women, children and African-Americans. Her major books include Fatal Invention: How Science, Politics, and Big Business Re-create Race in the Twenty-first Century (New Press, 2011); Shattered Bonds: The Color of Child Welfare (Basic Books, 2002), and Killing the Black Body: Race, Reproduction, and the Meaning of Liberty (Pantheon, 1997).


Her latest book, TORN APART : is about how the child welfare system destroys black families—and how abolition can build a safer world.

2023 Conference Closing Plenary Speaker


Darryl C. Green is an American author, coach, and motivational speaker who has transformed the lives of many both domestically and internationally with his message of healing, reconciliation, and deep forgiveness. Green is President and Principal Consultant of Deep Forgiveness, a non-profit organization established to assist in the restoration of families and economic empowerment for the disenfranchised.  A staunch proponent for libertarian reconciliation and forgiveness, Green has been pegged by industry professionals as an innovative change agent on mental health, healing, social justice, and restorative justice.

 

Green’s passion for his work, which stems in large part from the tragic murder of his then-teenage brother, has established him as an acclaimed and highly sought-after lecturer and presenter at colleges and universities throughout the United States and abroad.

 

Green holds a Master of Science in Criminal Justice, with an emphasis on Crime and Delinquency Prevention and Control, from Coppin State University in Baltimore, Maryland. He holds a Master of Science in Social Work, with an emphasis on Urban Children, Youth, and Families, from Morgan State University in Baltimore. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice at Pfeiffer University in Misenheimer, North Carolina. Green is currently a full-time professor in Morgan State University’s School of Social Work BSW Department and a Ph.D. student working on his Doctorate in Social Work from Morgan State University as well.
