March 2024

We’re so eager to embrace Spring! Just a hint of warmth from the earth, and we’ll be bursting into fresh activity, ready to shower our community with the joy that pets bring us every day (check out our trip to Oakland Airport, below). We welcome you to join us as March unfolds, shaking off any lingering hibernation and renewing your love of all things animal.

We especially look forward to longer days, because that means more time to spend with our furry friends…from leisurely long walks in the March sunshine, to cozy cuddles. We hope to see more of you as well – volunteering or adopting, or at an upcoming event. Let’s sow seeds of connection and compassion together!

Making Connections at Oakland Airport

Last month, teams from Valley Humane Society's Canine Comfort Pet-Assisted Therapy program took off for Oakland Airport. Volunteers and their dogs packed a positive impact for all those who passed through the airport, spreading joy and providing comfort to passengers and employees alike. Having the opportunity to pet dogs at the airport proved just the ticket to soothing frazzled travelers, reducing stress and calming pre-flight anxiety. Jumbo-sized smiles rewarded our teams, who were thrilled to help unpack all that stressful baggage. It was such a wonderful reception, Canine Comfort is ready to book a return trip!

Feed the Need with AniMeals

Make sure furry family members stay fed, cherished, and home with their families by donating to Valley Humane's AniMeals pet food pantry. Every contribution counts toward keeping pets out of shelters, since AniMeals distributes free dog and cat food to support pet guardians in need. Right now we have a pressing need for dry cat food, kitty litter, and small bags of dry dog food.

There are many ways to support: drop off supplies at Valley Humane's adoption center from 10 am - 4 pm, Tuesday-Saturday; make a monetary donation earmarked for AniMeals; or have an order from your preferred pet supplier delivered directly. Help loving homes keep tails wagging and purrs rumbling today!

Does Your Employer Offer Donation Matching?

Hundreds of Bay Area employers sponsor matching gift programs which match their employees' charitable contributions or volunteer hours...is yours one of them? By enrolling in your company’s matching gift program, the donation you make to support Valley Humane Society's lifesaving programs could be doubled! Check with your employer to find out their gift matching options, and use one of these methods to initiate the match:

  • Submit a matching gift verification request through your company’s online portal.
  • Obtain a matching gift verification form from your human resources department. Please email or mail your completed form and a copy of your donation receipt to: cmaniti@valleyhumane.org, and we'll take care of the rest!
