Happy Valentine’s Day! Let’s talk about our enemies.
Wait…what?
This is February 14th, a day set aside for romance and roses, chocolates and kisses, loving gazes and warm embraces. Where do enemies fit in?
Well, they don’t. And that’s precisely the problem. While it can be hard enough sometimes to get along with folks we love, surely it is impossible even to consider the possibility of getting along with folks we hate. For our enemies, we’ll consider rockets instead of roses and kicks instead of kisses. That seems only natural and wise, not to mention common sense.
Jesus, however, had a different perspective. He said, “Love your enemies.”
Wait…what?
Roses…and kisses…and hugs…for our enemies? What could Jesus possibly mean?
Sunday morning, as we continue our long look at Jesus’ imperative that we are to love our neighbors, we’ll talk about his command to love our enemies. Read Matthew 5:43-48 as you prepare to hear this word: “Loving Our Neighbors: But What About Our Enemies?”
