It Takes a Village!

Our vision is a world where everyone has a decent place to live. A pretty ambitious goal most would agree but one that we gladly work towards day after day. It is with the help of our village of supporters, donors, and volunteers, we are able to achieve the momentum for our vision.

This month, we have been blessed with an abundance of community support from far and wide even a few hundred miles wide!

We had the pleasure of hosting a group of 30 students from the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg who individually fundraised to spend their spring break volunteering with us!

Thanks to their hard work, we crossed several major projects off our to-do list to prepare the houses for our future homebuyers. In just a few days, these troops managed to cut, install, and caulk interior/exterior trim, paint, and install windows AND cabinets on multiple homes!

We are so incredibly grateful these top-notch folks chose to spend their Spring Break in making a difference in our area. And at the drop of a hat, our community was willing and ready to give back to them!

Clearview Baptist welcomed this group of thirty with open arms by providing lodging at the church for the entire week. The Franklin YMCA offered a place where the students could shower after a long day at the work site.

But the hospitality doesn't end there!

Our friends from the Downtown Franklin Rotary Club rallied their weekly Happy Bucks collections to provide two dinners for the students.

In addition, these hard workers were fueled by meals donated from Izzy's, Columbia Chick-fil-A, O'Charley's of Columbia, Taziki's, and Bar-B-Cutie!

It warmed our hearts to watch our community pull together to welcome our volunteer visitors. Thank you to everyone who contributed throughout the Collegiate Challenge Week and to Pitt-Greensburg for making it a huge success!

Young Leaders at Work

Franklin High School lent a helping hand this month by painting the exterior of the Velasquez family home. They brought a ton of energy and powered through their tasks like champs!

Ravenwood High School students not only sanded and prepped trim but also primed ALL the walls throughout the Velasquez home. Despite having a small group on the build site, they powered through the to-do list!

Westhaven has Heart

Eight years ago, Westhaven resident Dana Hardy had a vision that one day her beloved community would come together to sponsor a whole Habitat home. Through steady engagement and perseverance, that dream has become reality.

For the first time in HFHWM's history, a neighborhood in our community is fundraising $70,000 to purchase building materials for an entire home build.

Westhaven has been a continued partner of Habitat for Humanity's Women Build Program and has previously secured upwards of $20,000 through individual fundraising initiatives.

Taking on a monetary leap of $50,000 is a challenge that the entire community is ready to take on! Dana and the Westhaven Foundation have already secured in-kind or financial support from Southern Land Company, California Closets, Franklin Dodge Ram, Best Supply, L & H Flooring, and more.

In addition to investing funds for the home and providing 100% of the build volunteers over the course of ten weeks, they are planning to furnish the entire home for the family of six.

We are overwhelmed with appreciation for their enthusiasm and generosity. Their community slogan is "Westhaven has heart," and it's safe to say they have captured all of ours.
