The Civic Federation is pleased to partner with the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, the Civic Federation, and the Civic Committee to co-host a transportation forum on Thursday, April 13: “Public Transit in a Post-COVID World: Building a Financially Stable, Equitable and Accessible Mass Transit System.” The half-day conference will be held from 8:15am to 1:30pm at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago. Joshua Schank, Managing Principal at InfraStrategies LLC in Los Angeles, will be the keynote speaker. He will address the future of public transit. Introductory remarks will be made by Sarah Wetmore, Acting President of the Civic Federation. She will cover the history of mass transit funding in the Chicago region.
The forum will feature two panel discussions. The first panel, “Solving the Transit Funding Riddle in Northeast Illinois and Beyond,” will be held from 9:30 to 10:45am and will cover how transit agencies might address the federal funding cliff amid ridership shortfalls and public safety concerns. The second panel, “Envisioning a Mass Transit System that Promotes Equity, Opportunity and Economic Growth,” will be held from 11:00am to 12:15pm and will discuss transit as a driver of economic development.
