Earth Day

The One Earth Film Festival is the Midwest's premiere environmental film festival. From April 19-23, join and engage with powerful films and discussions in a weeklong celebration of Earth Day, either virtually or in person. Participate in vital conversations that will help you understand critical issues and move toward actions to mitigate climate change, address environmental justice, and more! Wellness Fair

The Oak Park-River Forest Chamber of Commerce will present its 7th Annual Community Health and Wellness Fair on Sunday, April 23, from 11:00am-2:00pm. The event will be held at the Fitness Formula Club, 1114 Lake Street, Oak Park and feature over 70 local vendors. This event is perfect for everyone, from families with young children to aging adults, those who would like to reconnect with their health, or those who just want a nice day out. Drinks & Dialogue

The next Drinks & Dialogue will be Wednesday, April 26, starting at 6:30pm.  Join us at Shanahan’s Irish Bar, 7353 Madison St., Forest Park, to learn about the mission of FORA (Forging Opportunities for Refugees in America), an after-school learning center that provides high dosage tutoring to refugee students to ensure their success in their new country. Hors d'oeuvres will be served, cash bar. RSVP Belinda Lutz-Hamel.

Cook County Annual Meeting

The League of Women Voters of Cook County Annual Meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 9, from 9:45am-1:00pm in Chicago at Roosevelt University, the Auditorium Building, 430 S. Michigan Avenue, in the Ida B. Wells Meeting Room. The room is on the second floor with elevator access. The meeting will include a continental breakfast and box lunch. Registration will begin at 9:15am,

with the business meeting starting at 9:45am. A box lunch and program will follow the business meeting. The featured speaker for the program is Metropolitan Water Reclamation District Commissioner Cameron Davis. While only delegates vote during the business meeting, all members are welcome and invited to attend. Registration for this meeting is now open. The cost for the meeting will be $35. Please email Joan Petertil if you are interested in being a delegate for this meeting. 

Public Transit Forum

The Civic Federation is pleased to partner with the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, the Civic Federation, and the Civic Committee to co-host a transportation forum on Thursday, April 13: “Public Transit in a Post-COVID World: Building a Financially Stable, Equitable and Accessible Mass Transit System.” The half-day conference will be held from 8:15am to 1:30pm at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago.  In-person registration is now closed, but remote options are still available. The event is free of charge. You can register for the event here. 

Joshua Schank, Managing Principal at InfraStrategies LLC in Los Angeles, will be the keynote speaker. He will address the future of public transit. Introductory remarks will be made by Sarah Wetmore, Acting President of the Civic Federation. She will cover the history of mass transit funding in the Chicago region.

The forum will feature two panel discussions. The first panel, “Solving the Transit Funding Riddle in Northeast Illinois and Beyond,” will be held from 9:30 to 10:45am and will cover how transit agencies might address the federal funding cliff amid ridership shortfalls and public safety concerns. The second panel, “Envisioning a Mass Transit System that Promotes Equity, Opportunity and Economic Growth,” will be held from 11:00am to 12:15pm and will discuss transit as a driver of economic development.

This fundraiser will once again be with Good Earth Greenhouse, 7900 Madison, River Forest, and will take place the weekend of May 5-7. LWV OPRF will receive 15% of sales.
