I greatly enjoyed this multi-voices novel, set up as a journalistic piece about the 1960s/70s musician, Opal Jewel, and her (not so healthy) partnership with musician, Nev Charles and a night that changed it all. Recommended for anyone who appreciates this era of music as the book evokes a strong sense of place and time. The historical aspects resonate even more today. I highly recommend listening to this in audio if you can. The full cast was so good that I often was fooled into thinking I was listening to interviews with real people.

I was very familiar with Misty Copeland, the first African-American woman promoted to principal dancer at the American Ballet Theatre but I knew very little about Raven Wilkinson, the first Black woman to dance for the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo. The friendship and love that Copeland feels for her mentor is beautiful and the parallel stories of their struggles is compelling.

The perfect book to recommend for readers of any genres and characters. Fans of historical fiction, fantasy, mysteries, same sex romance, family stories, well developed characters, and a bit of humor will all find something to enjoy here. I'm looking forward to reading the new sequel, A Restless Truth.

This memoir by the host of NPR's All Things Considered, is sometimes touching, sometimes funny, and always charming. Listen to it on audio, if you can.

This is the moving and poignant story of the "Tower of Faces" a monument built of photographs within the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. It wasn't hard to see why this won several awards. A beautiful, tender story of a terrible time in history. A story that focuses on "Dignity, not disaster. Lives lived, not lost".

An extremely important anti-racism story about friendship, perspective and the importance of understanding history. The author's note includes an important back matter on the history of the Confederate Flag. A book that would be a good conversation starter.

A fantasy adventure that is every bit as compelling and engaging as her A Wish in the Dark, Christina Soontornvat has become an automatic read for me. Her stories are vivid, suspenseful, and thought-provoking and truly gems to read and savor.

Jean was inspired by this book. It’s the true tale of two lives: the winningest WNBA and Women’s Euroleague player in history and a man imprisoned for twenty-three years for a crime he did not commit. How they became involved with each other and managed to remain optimistic in their long fight for Jonathan’s exoneration and eventual freedom is a powerful and moving story.
