Celebrate the Weber Leisure Center going solar!

The Skokie Park District is proud to announce the completion of a 458,000 watt solar system at the Weber Leisure Center. The district’s “Solarbration” and official ribbon cutting will be open to the public on Monday, February 24 at 1 p.m. at the Weber Leisure Center located at 9300 Weber Park Place in Skokie.

This no-cost project is an initiative to benefit the community and the environment in a partnership with Realgy Energy Services and Love Energy & Construction. Under a 24-year contract, the Skokie Park District will receive clean, renewable energy at a guaranteed low price. This innovative partnership also allows the park district to avoid delivery costs on the solar energy, allowing for a reduction in operating costs.

“We are thrilled to partner with Realgy Energy and Love Energy & Construction on this exciting project,” said Corrie Guynn, the district’s superintendent of parks, planning & facilities. “This solar system will lower our costs and benefit our community by providing clean energy and help us reduce our carbon footprint.”

Realgy Energy Services is underwriting the project and taking advantage of incentives that are unavailable to the park district. This allows them to invest in the solar system while securing a long-term commercial customer for the energy they sell. Love Energy & Construction designed, built, and will provide ongoing maintenance for the system.

The Skokie Park District’s Weber Leisure Center project is the fourth park district and the eighth project in the Chicago area to participate in Realgy’s unique Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) program. Realgy plans to partner with more for-profit and non-profit organizations in the next several years to build approximately 4.5 million watts of new solar projects in the Chicagoland area.
