Tunbridge Fair will be here before you know it. Please save the date of 9/14 for Education day! We need chaperones and we would love you have parent/guardians/friends of family commit early. We need you to fill out the 2023-2024 Vermont Criminal Information Form and share a copy of your license with our main office.

First Branch News!

Hello First Branch,

We had an exciting week! We had trips all over the Central Vermont area! Our 8th graders celebrated their year by going on the Spirit of Ethan Allen cruise on Lake Champlain, 5-6th grade students hiked Spruce Mountain, and each school hosted a concert. We rounded out the week with a 5th-8th Enchanted Forest dance. This weekend the The Ranger gravel ride is on, and we have so many families helping out at the water stations and expo stand. Finally, if you have yet to see them, the new Friends of First Branch T-Shirts are in, and they are awesome! Payment is due asap!

As our school days wind down, it is important to stop and thank our teachers, support staff, the SU, and families for making this year a success as a newly unified district! There are so many moments to celebrate and many notes we have taken to help support next year.

Finally, on Monday we begin our Associate Principal interviews. We have 3 candidates and an interview panel consisting of First Branch administration, an administrative assistant, a board member, parent(s), students, and teachers spanning K-8.

Free Books

At the front of the 1912 CPS building there is a book shelf of free books. These books can be taken by anyone for any purpose. Many of these books have sat in storage for years. Teaches have taken what they need for classrooms. Books will move on by 6/22. The farmer's market is a great time to check them out!

Have a wonderful weekend!

On the Horizon:

Compost:UV Super Compost Project (WRVSU)

We are so excited to announce that our school is a participant in the Upper Valley Super Compost Project!

The Upper Valley Super Compost Project is institutionalizing living compost systems into 24 participating school outdoor classrooms.

The goal is to increase real-world problem-solving opportunities, enhance the health of schoolyards, school and community gardens, and save schools money!

On-site compost systems have the potential to shift current organics hauling fees paid by most schools into an investment school staff, students, community engagement and regeneration.

In addition to saving money, compost systems serve as a classroom extension enhancing STEM curriculum and providing a mechanism for a student-run business.

This replicable model will lay a foundation for regions to collaborate in systemic change-making.

The UV Super Compost Project Team is working hard to raise the one-time costs of implementing the project. In addition to federal and state grants, private donors and foundation requests, the UVSCP team has created a crowdfunding campaign to demonstrate the expansive community support to  provide schools and students with innovative resources and tools they need to implement solutions to real-world problems like climate change.
