Welcome to the Revised Common Lectionary.

Join us as we journey through the church year.

Maundy Thursday, April 17

Opening Prayer: Almighty God, you took on the role of a servant when you gave everything for our sake. Teach us to humble ourselves for the honorable work of serving others. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Consider: Consider this theme for the week’s text.

Jesus challenged his community’s understanding of class and privilege by humbling himself to wash the feet of his disciples. His bold act shows us there can be another way to attain enough for all.

Read: Read the following daily readings to deepen your understanding of the weekend’s texts.

Maundy Thursday, Exodus 12:1-4, (5-10), 11-14; 1 Corinthians 11:23-26; John 13:1-17, 31b-35

Reflect and Connect: Reflect on the following questions; connect in conversation with others.

  • What was a high point of your day? What was a low point?
  • How well do you receive help or praise? What barriers stand in your way to receiving fully the gift of service offered by Jesus?
  • For the littles: Why do people receive communion at church? Ask someone what communion means.

Do: By acting on what we learn, we make God’s word come alive. Do the following activity this week.

Ask for help. There is likely something you need help with. Ask for the help you need, and then graciously accept the help.
