Dear Colleagues,
As we look forward to continuing to recover from the effects of the pandemic, we hope to have many more opportunities for resuming the kinds of collegial interactions that make the DOM research community so vibrant. As one step in this direction, we are hosting lunches with research faculty and fellows through the DOMINOs program, and we encourage you to take advantage of DOMINOs and other opportunities to reconnect with your colleagues here (see below). Also, in this month’s edition, we congratulate first-time R01 awardees and a new K99 awardee, share funding opportunities and highlight new offerings from the Physician-Scientist Career Development Program (PSCDP), that will be of interest to lab-based fellows and early career faculty.
In recognition of Women's History Month, UCSF Profiles highlights hundreds of women faculty, trainee, and staff scientists – many from DOM – who are essential contributors to our research mission. Congratulations!
All the best,
Diane and David

UCSF Career Development Resources for Lab-Based Physician-Scientist Trainees
The UCSF Physician-Scientist Career Development Program (PSCDP) is launching several new initiatives to support lab-based physician-scientist trainees. These include a website, which serves as a clearinghouse for resources targeting lab-based physician-scientists in the residency through junior faculty periods, as well as a listing of upcoming workshops and community events.
The first PSCDP-sponsored K08 Grant Writing workshop is coming up soon. If you’re interested, please register here! The PSCDP will offer two new mentoring programs:
-
Confidential Consults, for a one-time consultation with a faculty physician-scientist regarding any thorny issue that has come up in your career as a physician-scientist (e.g., conflicts between clinical and research responsibilities, mentors, or negotiating for your next position/promotion). Register here.
-
Physician-Scientist Mentoring Committees for ongoing scientific and career input from a thesis committee-style group. We envision these committees would meet annually but help promote trainees’ advancement in their research and overall careers. Register here.
For questions, please contact PSCDP.
