We Remember a Colleague & Friend

June 2, 2023

Honoring Sherry Reed

The UT Southwestern Radiology community is saddened by the passing of former colleague, Sherry Reed, who passed away May 30th, 2023 after a long battle with breast cancer and illness due to chemo.

Sherry worked for UT Southwestern Medical Center since 1997 in various positions in Radiology including Neuroradiology and Musculoskeletal divisions, the Education office, and Credentialing.

Coworkers remember her work ethic and mentorship as well her compassionate personality and friendly energy. She was an animal lover; raising steers, goats, chickens, and horses. She is remembered to have a home filled with fur babies (cats and dachshunds). Sherry was a creative artisan; sewing, restoring old furniture, jewelry making, and baking.

Our thoughts and hearts are with her loving family, including her husband Randy, children, and grandchildren.

Coworkers Remember Sherry As A Friend

"Sherry was a wonderful woman who, in my experience, served the faculty and team with such a joyful spirit. Whenever you would ask how she was doing, her response was always, “peachy keen.” She always had a smile on her face, never complained, and everything was peachy keen. She was simply a light!"

-Lisa Farmer, GME Program Coordinator I

"Sherry was always a ray of sunshine! She was definitely always "peachy keen"! She and I shared the similarity because I was always "peachy"...and she'd follow up and say "peachy keen"!  She was thoughtful, especially when you didn't know it! I can remember her baking me cookies for my birthday just because she wanted to do something special. She was never afraid of hard work. Whenever the Pedi Faculty needed to complete something, Sherry came to Children's. She even walked most times! That's definitely a bit of a trek from NE6!!! She will always hold a special place in my heart that can never be replaced! I'm sad that she is gone but relieved that she is no longer suffering."

-Monica Hewitt, Administrative Associate

"Sherry was always so warm and welcoming to everyone. She was well-known for always being “peachy-keen” and always had a smile on her face. Sherry truly cared about others; she’d ask me questions about how my kids were doing and was genuinely interested in my responses. Sherry will be missed by countless people."

-Bridgette Young, Administrative Associate

"Sherry Reed was one of the kindest people I met when starting my career at UTSW. Always with a smile on her face and a quick “country charm” to put you at ease with any question or concern you might come across. It was a pleasure to have the opportunity to get to know her and work with her during her time in Radiology.  She brought fun and laughter to everyone she came across. She will be dearly missed."

-Samantha Patterson, Sr. Administrative Associate

"I have so much to say about this wonderful human being. I am going to miss her so very much. Sherry and I worked together a UTSW for 4 years in the Radiology Department. She is the reason I have flourished and succeeded in my career. She was patient and mentored me in such a wonderful way through the years.  We bonded and had lots of fun in our conversations and lunch dates. We missed our lunch dates when COVID hit and we said we couldn't wait until this all got better so we could return to our lunch dates, even if we were working from home. I will forever remember her kindness and love she gave me. She was truly, truly, truly one of a kind. A jewel of a woman! She comforted me when my mother passed away 2 years ago and attended the funeral. She is now with our Lord and Savior along with my mother."

-Irene Alfaro, Credentialing & Medical Staff Coordinator
