The Feast of the Ascension is celebrated forty days after Easter. It is one of our church’s principle feast days, and thus we always celebrate it as the last Sunday of Easter.
The Ascension is Jesus’ dramatic exit from earth to join his Father and marks Jesus’ final post resurrection appearance to the disciples. The Acts of the Apostles tells us that this dramatic exit took place on the Mount of Olives about a day’s journey from Jerusalem. In the Ascension, Jesus finishes his earthly work and takes his place at the right hand of the Father. In the fourth century, Augustine of Hippo preached a sermon to the young church about its significance. He says:
“Today our Lord Jesus Christ ascended into heaven; let our hearts ascend with him. Listen to the words of the Apostle: “If you have risen with Christ, set your hearts on the things that are above where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God; seek the things that are above, not the things that are on earth.” For just as he remained with us even after his ascension, so we too are already in heaven with him, even though what is promised us has not yet been fulfilled in our bodies.....We cannot be in heaven, as he is on earth, by divinity, but in him, we can be there by love.”
See you Sunday!

Afghan Ministry Update
Happy Mothers Day to all! While Mothers Day is not a celebrated holiday in Afghanistan, in Manchester NH it is. On Tuesday we celebrated with a sheet cake from Market Basket. It is interesting to note that Haram concerns seem to disappear when cake appears. We also celebrated Hansi’s birthday. Please note the faces of the little ones as they await the cake. Hansi leaves for Wisconsin next week and will be greatly missed but Mom duty calls as her daughter will be having a baby later this summer. We brought the school age kids to the Aviation Museum during school vacation week. The museum is right next to the Manchester airport, in fact, it is the original airport building situated right next to the runways. The kids had a ball playing in the cockpit and using the flight simulators. We are so grateful for the Episcopal Diocese of NH grant that we received which is helping to fund our Brookside Tuesdays, youth enrichment activities and mens events. Hansi signed many of the kids up for spring soccer which is underway. We have a new family! They arrived this week and are staying at a hotel until an apartment is found. It is the first new family to arrive in over a year. Their arrival brings back so many memories of the early stages of St. Peter’s Afghan Ministry. The Sewing Seeds business is going strong. Over the course of the last two weeks, Hansi, myself and other volunteers have sold almost $4000 in sales at six different church coffee hours in Weston, Concord, Nashua and Exeter NH. The women’s work has come a long way, our product line is expanding and people are just so supportive. We were also accepted into the juried Codman Estate Fine Arts & Crafts Festival in September which is very exciting. Thank you all for your ongoing support.
Thank you,
Karen & Hansi

Home Communion and Prayer | |
Though many of St. Peter's parishioners have returned to worshiping and receiving Holy Communion in person inside our church building, we know it is not yet safe for all of us to do so. We will continue to live-stream our services so that we may include as many as possible in our offerings of praise and thanksgiving to God.
If it is not yet safe for you to worship with us in person, and you would like to receive Holy Communion and/or a share a time of prayer at your home, please contact the Parish Office.
If you would like to schedule a time during the week for private prayer in the church, please contact the church office.
St. Peter's is committed to continuing to make our worship space safe and welcoming to all. We hope to have you back with us in person as soon as doing so is the right choice for you.
