An INLA reception and silent auction was held the evening of Wednesday, February 22, 2023 in Ames, IA. It was held in conjunction with the ISU Shade Tree Short Course and INLA Annual Meeting and Trade Show.

Over $4,000 was raised at the silent auction, which we use to award scholarships to Iowa horticulture students attending Iowa universities and colleges.

Thanks to all who participated!

2023 SUDAS Specifications Town Hall
The Iowa Nursery and Landscape Association, "INLA", will be hosting a Town Hall Meeting to discuss the current 2023 SUDAS specifications (Iowa Statewide Design and Specifications), with regards to landscaping.

WHEN: Wednesday, April 5, 2023 - 3:00-4:30 pm

WHERE:
Kirkwood Community College Horticulture Building, Room 106
7224 Washington View Parkway, Cedar Rapids, IA 52404

WHO: ALL INLA MEMBERS AND NON-MEMBERS ARE WELCOME
Please share this invitation with contractors and nurserymen or landscapers that are impacted by SUDAS specifications.

WHAT:

Of particular concern are the current specifications related to the following that board members for the INLA believe need to be amended:
  •  Planting schedule
  •  Payment schedule
  •  Qualifications for landscape installers
  •  Warranty terms

The goal of the meeting is:
  •  To discuss and understand the current specifications
  •   To reach consensus on whether proposed amendments should be requested
  •  To reach consensus on the terms to which these provisions should be amended
  • To prioritize the action on the requests

The INLA is suggesting that it serve as a unified voice for the nurserymen and landscapers for proposing amendments. There needs to be better representation of nurserymen, contractors, and landscapers in the SUDAS specification amendment process.

Please plan to attend.

You may contact INLA Board Member David Selmer at 319-331-9956 with any questions, or to discuss further.

Disaster Assistance Available From SBA
A note from US Small Business Administration

Small nonfarm businesses in 14 Iowa counties and neighboring counties in Minnesota and Nebraska are now eligible to apply for low‑interest federal disaster loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration. These loans offset economic losses because of reduced revenues caused by drought in the primary counties that began Aug. 2, 2022.

Small nonfarm businesses, small agricultural cooperatives, small businesses engaged in aquaculture and most private nonprofit organizations of any size may qualify for Economic Injury Disaster Loans of up to $2 million to help meet financial obligations and operating expenses which could have been met had the disaster not occurred.

SBA customer service representatives are available at the contact information below. SBA will answer specific questions about how a disaster loan may help each survivor recover from the disaster damage and will provide one-on-one assistance in completing applications for these loans.

Applicants may apply online, receive additional disaster assistance information and download applications at https://disasterloanassistance.sba.gov/.

Applicants may also call SBA’s Customer Service Center at (800) 659-2955 or email disastercustomerservice@sba.gov for more information on SBA disaster assistance. Individuals who are deaf or hard-of-hearing please dial 7-1-1 to access telecommunications relay services.

The deadline to apply for economic injury is May 26, 2023.
