National Volunteer Week 2023

April 16-22, 2023

The National Volunteer Week theme for 2023 is Volunteering Weaves Us Together. This reveals the importance of volunteering to the strength and vibrancy of our communities through the interconnected actions we take to support one another. These diverse forms of sharing our time, talent and energy strengthen the fabric of our community.

During National Volunteer Week 2023, we will celebrate our collective impact: through our kindness, generosity and commitment to volunteering, we weave our lives together.

Golden Circle

Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity Red Deer Region Society is a non-profit organization working towards a world where everyone has a safe and decent place to live.

Habitat for Humanity will soon be starting their build in Blackfalds and may have some volunteer opportunities, dependent on weather and the construction tasks that are happening any given week.

The organization relies heavily on the support of volunteers, donors and local communities to build simple, decent and affordable houses with Habitat families. Minimum age to volunteer at the build site is 16.

The Habitat for Humanity ReStore accepts donations of new and used building materials/home furnishings and sells them at a reduced price to the public, with the funds supporting their operational and construction costs. The ReStore is looking for volunteers! Full or half-day shifts available, Monday-Saturday, and can be a variety of tasks in the store. Minimum age to volunteer at the store is 16.

KidSport Lacombe County

We provide grants to help cover the costs of registration fees so that all kids aged 18 and under in Lacombe County can play a season of sport.

Our chapter accepts applications and administers grants of up to $250 per child/year, for kids who live in Lacombe County, or in one of the other communities we serve.

The board/committee members fundraise, plan events, and give out grants to local families so all kids can play community sports. Time commitment is one meeting per month.

You can make a worthwhile contribution that will give a kid a chance to experience the benefits of sport. For more information please or email.

Other Volunteer Opportunities

  • Canadian Red Cross is seeking volunteers for their Emergency Management program. While based in Red Deer, Volunteers in this program will respond to small-scale disasters across Central Alberta and large-scale disasters across the province, and the country. Volunteers are asked to consider that immediate deployments are unlikely and on-going training is key to being prepared to respond when and if the volunteer is available to do so. Please apply online.
