Thriving Together, Starting with You

February 2025 Newsletter

Dear Friends and Family of Impact100 Greater Chesapeake,

As 2025 unfolds before us, we are reminded of the incredible resilience within our community. While this new year brings with it new opportunities, it is also important to acknowledge that it has been a tumultuous time for many.

In these times, it is vital to practice self-care. Caring for yourself is not a luxury, but a necessity. Remember that you can only give your best to others when you are also taking the time to nurture your own well-being—physically, emotionally, and mentally. I encourage you to take off all of your hats to pause, reflect, and ensure that your own needs are being met so that you can continue to contribute to the community with energy and compassion.

As we move forward, let’s not forget the importance of connecting with others. In a world that often feels fragmented, our ability to build relationships and nurture community is more important than ever. Reach out to friends, family, and fellow members. Share your experiences and lean on each other for support. Together, we are more resilient.

Thank you for all you do. Giving back to the community has always been the heart of our mission. With your commitment and care, we will honor the power of collective action and continue our long-lasting, transformational impact in our community.

Warm regards,

Sarah Amyot

President, Impact100 Greater Chesapeake

Recap: Day of Service with The Blue Ribbon Project

On Saturday, February 1st, several Impact100 Greater Chesapeake members joined together for a Day of Service at The Blue Ribbon Project. Days of Service are short (~2 hours), one-time community service opportunities that support our local nonprofits. These Days of Service are a way for Impact100 Greater Chesapeake to have additional IMPACT on the community beyond our yearly grant recipients.

At The Blue Ribbon Project, volunteers helped pack backpacks for their Backpacks of Love program, which supports children entering the foster care system by providing them with essential items they need during a difficult transition. Each backpack has age-appropriate supplies, including clothing, toiletries, school supplies, and comfort items like blankets or stuffed animals. These backpacks are designed to ease the stress for children who often enter foster care with little to no personal belongings.

Volunteers also helped organize Mirah's Closet, a free resource for children and teens entering foster care. Mirah's Closet provides them with clothing, shoes, and personal items tailored to their age, size, and needs. Many children arrive in foster care with few belongings, and Mirah’s Closet helps ensure they have essential items to feel comfortable and prepared. The closet is stocked through community donations and includes a variety of seasonal clothing, pajamas, shoes, and hygiene products. By offering these necessities in a dignified way, Mirah’s Closet aims to support children’s self-esteem and well-being as they adapt to their new environment.
