20th ANNIVERSARY MONTH!

This week, as we gear up for the coming year, I decided to devote this issue to finding stuff in both Final Cut and Premiere. Because, as the saying goes, "if you can't find it, you don't have it." Truly when you're editing, not finding the clip that you know you have but can't find is infuriating.

Let's start with a lead story on finding used, and unused, media in Final Cut Pro.

In the news:

Last year ended with sad news: David Hebel passed away at the end of November. As a result, his website, Digital Juice, permanently closed its doors. Read the news.

CES starts tomorrow, so I'm expecting lots of interesting news to talk about next week. For now, though, this past week was very quiet on the news front.

Webinars will start again mid-January. I'm currently remodeling part of my office, which completely tore apart my studio. Once things get rebuilt, I'll restart webinars. Sorry for the delay.

Here's a new article on how to use Favorites in FCP to quickly highlight selects.

Finally, a tutorial on how to use Keywords to label clips or segments in Final Cut.

One of the promising features of AI for video editors is automatic clip logging. Options include scene, face or logo recognition and scene detection in Premiere; not to mention all the automatic ways we have of converting speech-to-text. Plus a flock of utilities, plugins and software to help us manage media outside of the NLE itself. I've always known how important it is to label (tag) our clips - I've just hated the time and effort it took. Anything that reduces that manual effort gets a gold star in my book. Let me know if you are using a tool that you like.

I'm writing this a few hours before a major blizzard is projected to hit New England. Since our area tends to lose power when a cloud floats over, I figured I'd better get this done a day earlier than usual. Just to be safe. Hopefully power will be back on by the time you read this. If not, I'll get back to you when I can.

Until next week, stay warm, stay healthy and edit well.
