Buy Canadian – Shop Local
Council unanimously approved a motion on Wednesday, Feb. 5 to Buy Canadian – Shop Local. Town staff were directed to review the impacts of a Buy Canadian procurement policy, and to identify and expand promotions of current campaigns including ‘Shop Local,’ ‘Grown in Georgina’ and ‘Georgina Made,’ as a reminder to buy Canadian and shop local first. The motion followed a statement from Mayor Margaret Quirk stating the Town continues to support local businesses and is encouraging the community to do the same by choosing to Buy Canadian – Shop Local whenever possible. Pup-date on Winter
Earlier this week, a video of a dog abandoned at a Georgina park was released sparking an outpouring of care and concern. This dog, now named “Winter,” is safe and doing well at the Georgina Animal Shelter. Winter will soon be available for adoption, and anyone interested can watch the shelter’s website for updates. If you are considering rehoming your pet, you have options available. These resources may include nearby animal shelters, veterinary clinics, pet trainers, social services, food banks or the Farley Foundation, which can assist with veterinary costs.

Safe Streets Monitoring
Check out the video and meet Shelly, the Town’s Safe Streets for Safe Use mascot. You may have noticed "coming soon" signs in Georgina. They have been placed in five locations as part of the Safe Streets Monitoring Program, which will use automated speed cameras to reduce speeding in Community Safety Zones. Winter operations and safety reminders
The Town is committed to providing a consistent level of snow removal service throughout the winter season. Using a combination of Town staff and contractors, plowing, sanding and salting is performed each winter with consideration to safety, environmental and budgetary concerns. Brush up on your winter wisdom with these reminders.

- Don't throw snow or ice on the road when clearing your driveway or sidewalk.
- Remember to allow for extra time and space on the roads when driving in snowy conditions.
- Be mindful of sharing the road with snowplows.
- No ice is safe ice. Do not use stormwater ponds for recreational activities and be cautious around all frozen bodies of water.
