Fairfax submits Draft 2023-31 Housing Element for HCD review


On Friday, May 12, 2023, the Town of Fairfax sent its draft 6th Cycle Housing Element to the California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD). The draft included and addressed comments received from the public and the Town Council. The draft is also posted to the Town’s website with redlines showing how changes from the May 3, 20223 Council Meeting were incorporated.  


HCD now has 90 days to make comments to the Town. Following the 90-day HCD review period, the Town will need to incorporate HCD’s comments and then approve the Housing Element.

Celebrate Pride with Fairfax’s Rainbow Crosswalk

The Town of Fairfax will be painting a Progress Pride rainbow at the crosswalk between the Parkade and Peri’s Tavern/My Thai. To help celebrate, gather at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 30, 2023 on the Parkade side. Crew and volunteers will be painting the existing crosswalk with colors representing the full diversity of the LGBTQ+ community.

Planning Commission vacancies—apply by June 28, 2023


The Town is accepting applications to fill vacancies on the Planning Commission. 


The Planning Commission is responsible for bringing a broad variety of expertise and experience in reviewing: 


  • Planning applications 
  • Fairfax ordinances 
  • The Town General Plan and Housing Element.

Chipper Days 2023


The Chipper Day Program is a wildfire prevention and vegetation removal program that is paid for by MWPA and available to all Fairfax residents.

Just Cause Evictions Workshop


The Just Cause Evictions Workshop was held on Saturday, May 6, 2023. The workshop was to identify, discuss, and prioritize potential amendments to the Ordinance. View the workshop recording online

Chinese Lion Dance

Welcome the Lunar New Year with the famous Lion Dancers of the Marin Chinese Cultural Association. The Lion Dance is thought to cleanse darkness and bring good luck, prosperity and happiness.

Ember Stomp 2023

Saturday, May 20 | 11:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m.

Marin Civic Center Fairgrounds


Ember Stomp invites residents to learn their role in being part of a fire-adapted community and how we can all prepare for wildfire. This year offers a bigger space with new music, entertainment, exhibits, vendors and a live burn demonstration. This FREE event is fun for the whole family.

Spring Craft Faire—Artisan pop up event!

Fairfax Pavilion 


This one-day art fair is inspired by our annual Fairfax Holiday Craft Faire that happens each December. It’s free to participate; reach out to Sharon Virtue if you are interested in joining the fair!

Piano Concert in Peri Park 

Sunday, May 28 | 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. 

Peri Park | All ages welcome 


Bring your kids to a Youth Piano Recital at the Green Stage in Peri Park and inspire them to play music with our local piano prodigies.  


Lindsay Everly is a piano and voice teacher based in Fairfax- around 20 of her students will be performing a wide variety of songs. Students will perform classical and blues and many will sing and play pop songs.  


This event is organized by Artist in Residence, Susan Pascal Beran. 

Other city and town news

Cascade Canyon Neighborhood prepares for first practice evacuation


Cascade Canyon Firewise will conduct a practice evacuation on the morning of Saturday, May 20. The goal is to get people prepared and ready to evacuate their kids, GoBags, pets, medicines, and other emergency supplies as quickly as possible.

Safety Improvements Come to Fairfax Library 


The Fairfax Library branch is closed through May 24 for building improvements.  


During the closure, patrons can return and check out materials at other city or county libraries in Marin with their Marin County Free Library card.    

Electric Landscape Equipment Rebate Program


Earlier this year Fairfax launched its Landscape and Equipment Trade-in Rebate Program, and there are still funds available!


Who is eligible?


Residents and commercial landscapers with an active Fairfax business license are eligible to receive these rebates.
