April is a month of celebrations here at the Library.  We celebrate National Poetry Month, Autism Awareness Month, National Library Week (4/9-4/15), and of course the ever popular Reading is Funny Day on April 1,  Be sure to take a look at some of the wonderful events planned this month including some Spanish Poetry readings and some tech programs for both kids and adults.  And, as always, we'll have loads of Children's programming for your vacation fun.
We've Launched a New Website...Come Take a Look

Welcome to the Nevins Library's new web site! Now when you point your browser to www.nevinslibrary.org, you are in for a whole new experience. The Library staff has been working hard with The Simon Group of North Andover to create anew site that will make it easier for you to discover ALL of the materials, services and opportunities that the Nevins Library offers. In recent years we realized that our site was serviceable, but not as accessible as it should be. While it had a lot of content, that content was difficult to find, and the format did not invite the viewer to explore further and find the range of information beyond the front page of the site. So we challenged ourselves and our partners at Simon Group to create a page that looked attractive and fun, but also would draw the user in, and would also reveal all of the library's offerings easily and quickly. We especially wanted to highlight our e-content -- downloadable e-books, e-audio, e-magazines and research databases. Each year we expand these 21st century offerings, but we know that a lot of you don't know that we even have them. So this new web site is designed for you to be able to find them quickly, allow you to isolate which service you want, and then download or open it efficiently. At the same time we know that you want easy access to our calendar of events, which is rich with all of the programming our library does. And finally we wanted to make sure you know about some of our other activities and offerings, including our Literacy Volunteers program, our Friends of the Library, the NevinsBuzz Blog, fundraising efforts, and new or unusual offerings like our telescope loan program or museum passes.

So, please, check out our new web site, and give us feedback. Email me at  kmcleod@nevinslibrary.org with any helpful suggestions or insights.

$15 per person

Find inspiration for your garden from wisdom handed down from our grandmothers' time. This presentation brings to life the design approach and sage advice of prominent garden writers of the early 20th Century. Their pearls of wisdom continue to inform us on color blending, cultural considerations and plant placement. Truly, our grandmothers knew what they were doing!

Join us for Movie Night: Hidden Figures (PG) on Tuesday, April 11 at 6:30pm. A little about the movie:       "Before a computer became an inanimate object and before Sputnik changed the course of history, before the Supreme Court case Brown v. Board of Education established that separate was in fact not equal, and before the poetry of Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech rang out over the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, a group of black women working at the Langley Memorial Aeronautical Laboratory in Hampton, Virginia were helping America dominate aeronautics, space research, and computer technology, carving our a place for themselves as female mathematicians who were also black, black mathematicians who were also female. Hidden Figures is their story." (from hiddenfigures.com) Hidden Figures is brought to you as part of our year-long ScienceQuest initiative celebrating the Earth, Sea and Sky.
