May in National Bicycle Month
|
|
The PA Route 6 Corridor is a prime destination for all types of outdoor recreation. This month, we'd like to spotlight many of the cycling opportunities this region has to offer.
With the designations of PA Route 6 as both a state and national bike route, the Alliance has endeavored to showcase some of the best riding in this region. As a result, bike loops have been created for each of the Heritage Communities across PA Route 6. These loops begin and end in each community and help visiting cyclists explore local attractions and businesses while providing an entertaining and safe riding experience. These loops range from 15-30 miles in length and are of light to moderate difficultly. They can also be strung together using PA Route 6 as the connecting route to create the Trans Pennsylvania Cycle Tour.
The Alliance has also worked with planners, land managers, cycling enthusiasts, and bike shops throughout the region to create our 6 Signature Loops, which feature some of the top attractions across Pennsylvania's northern tier. These loops range from 45-95 miles in length and traverse some of the most challenging riding in each region. These loops include the Presque Isle and the Bayfront, the Allegheny National Forest and Surrounds, Ride Through the Dark Skies, Canyon Rambler, The Endless Mountains, and Hawley and Wally Showdown. You can read more about these loops and view maps on our website.
All of these bike loops can be customized to suit your needs and skill level. On our website, you'll find links to our page on Ride with GPS where you can download cue sheets for each loop.
If you ride or have ridden any of these loops, we want your feedback! Head over to our website before or after your ride and complete our Bike Loop Assessment Form and let us know what you thought of the experience. These assessments take only a few minutes to complete and help us improve each loop to provide an even better experience for future cyclists.
Regardless of where you choose to ride, whether it's your favorite route near home or one of the loops across PA Route 6, we hope you'll join us in celebrating National Bicycle Month and get out there and enjoy some outdoor recreation!
