LWV Charleston Members:
LWVUS is switching to a new membership portal, ChapterSpot. This is a change that we have been anticipating. The new system will reduce administrative work for the state and local Leagues, among other advantages.
Your individual member information will be transferred to the new system. When the new system launches on February 3. 2025, you will receive an email that instructs you to log into the portal. You will not be asked to renew until your renewal date (one year after your most recent renewal, or one year after the date you joined, if in 2024). Once you have access to the portal, you will be able to update your own contact information.
Dues will no longer be a fixed rate, but will be “pay-what-you-can.” The dues amount for all members is recommended at $75, but members can pay any amount of $20 or more. Student and household discounts have been eliminated. But with the options and flexibility, all members can select a payment level that meets their needs.
You will still be able to manage your membership through access from our website, LWVCharleston.org. We will be adding new Join/Renew and Member Log-in buttons on the site that connect into the new system and will alert you when they are operational.
Members will also still have the option to contribute directly to their local League, which will receive 100% of the donation. This is independent of dues and is optional. Because LWV Charleston is designated as a 501(c)(3), donations to our local league are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.
On a member level, we hope these changes will make managing your membership easier. On a League level, this is expected to increase membership, support greater diversification of membership around the country, and increase our ability nationally and locally to empower voters and defend democracy.
