FAREWELL Letter from Dana DiPaola and Natalie Malafronte,
Co-Presidents
What a year it has been! We are so grateful to have served your children and our community this past school year. Our PTO strives to create a strong partnership between children, parents, teachers and the Madison community. KRS is a special place because of these relationships.
We will never forget looking around during Field Day and saying to each other, “We did it!” Seeing the joy in the faces of the students, feeling the encouragement and support of the teachers and staff, and being blown away by the number of parent volunteers who quickly signed up to lend a hand. It was absolutely incredible. Everyone was having fun and enjoying being a part of the community we are so lucky to call home.
One of the main objectives of the Kings Road School PTO is to implement activities and educational programs that enrich the lives of our students. As evident in the PTO recap above, the children have had numerous opportunities for enrichment throughout the school year. Programs such as Meet the Masters, in-class enrichment programs like Mad Science and four school-wide assemblies are examples of our PTO dollars at work to achieve our goals.
We have had an incredible year fundraising, hosting one of the most successful adult socials KRS has had yet! From the mum sale, to after-school enrichments, the generosity of our community all year has been above and beyond. The PTO was excited to finally accept delivery of 10 outdoor tables and umbrellas for our students’ use funded by us. We were able to use PTO funds to fund 8 teacher grants, our first-ever color run, One school, One Book books and SO much more.
This school year, the KRS PTO has lent a helping hand to several local organizations, and received generous support as well. We partnered with the student council to collect Thanksgiving food items for the Overlook Medical Center Health Start Clinic. We encouraged students to donate books for Good Grief. This spring, our neighborhood Staples awarded KRS with a $500 gift certificate.
During the 2022-2023 school year, we’ve encouraged parents and caretakers to come together in various ways. We have painted together to create the beautiful outdoor mural. We have held grade-level social events, a fall social at Noe Pond, and a spring social at the Madison Arts Center. We have provided countless opportunities to spend time with your children during the school days, including field day happenings, Meet the Master events, and volunteering at the Holiday Boutique. We hope you have all enjoyed being a big part of our school community this year, and know what an integral part of it you all are. Without you, we couldn’t do all of the amazing things we have done and will continue to do.
As always, we love to support and even spoil the KRS teachers and staff. This year’s Teacher Appreciation week included massages for all as a special “thank you.” We surprised our teachers and staff with little treats all year long, like Philly pretzels before the Superbowl and an incredible array of cookies and treats before winter break. We also wheeled around the Kindness Cart a few times, offering up coffee and snacks as afternoon pick-me-ups! We hope our KRS teachers and staff always know how much we appreciate them!
If you are still reading this (and we hope you are!), we encourage you to become more involved in our school’s PTO. We have met and worked with many incredible volunteers and friends along the way. It has been an awesome way to get to know other parents in our community. It has been a highly rewarding experience for us, and for so many!
Lastly, we want to thank our PTO board: Tammy de Freitas, Katie Zurich, Mona Alawadhi, Tracylnn Nuttycombe and Manda Farough, all our committee heads, room parents, event volunteers and everyone who pitched in throughout the year to make it a wonderful success! We are grateful for your grace, patience and encouragement along the way. We will continue to support this amazing organization as long as our children are here (and we still have 3 more between us who haven’t gotten to KRS yet!)
We hope everyone enjoys their summer break. Looking forward to experiencing the magic Katie, Tammy and the new board will bring in September!
