Free parking returns to Holt Arena.
|
After not having an area dedicated to free parking since 2011, Idaho State is excited to announce that the north end of the Holt Arena parking lot will once again be designated free parking. The free parking in that lot will start on July 1 and include a renewed focus on our free campus bus route, with stops near many of our campus buildings. Additionally, in consideration of upcoming parking lot maintenance needs across all of our campuses, we are announcing a slight increase in parking fees. The fees collected largely fund our maintenance and improvement needs. Event parking fees may still be charged on days of football games or other events, as needed and communicated. An updated parking map that identifies the new free parking area will be added to the Parking Services website in the near future. READ MORE

It’s time to start thinking about scholarships and financial aid.
|
ALL current and new incoming students should be applying for scholarships now in the Bengal Online Scholarship System (BOSS) for Fall 2022. In fact, we encourage all students to be very active in BOSS from the months of January through April, as this is when the majority of scholarships are listed. Students should watch their ISU email for new scholarships for which they may be eligible, as well as if they have received any scholarship offers.
We’d like to highlight two new scholarship opportunities. The Albion Scholarship provides a large sum of scholarship funding over the next several years to students in the College of Education. The Blue Cross Scholarship will assist Idaho students in mental health programs and improve access to health care in Idaho's rural communities.
Students who are attending Summer 2022 and who want to be considered for federal financial aid should complete their 2021-2022 FAFSA (if they haven’t already). They will also need to submit the Summer Supplement form that is now available on the Financial Aid website. Students must be registered for summer courses prior to submitting this form.
Students are encouraged to complete their 2022-2023 FAFSA to ensure they receive the maximum financial aid available to them. Students need 2020 tax and income information to complete this FAFSA. Students should watch their BengalWeb and ISU e-mail for correspondence regarding their financial aid for the 2022-2023 academic year.
Need help? Not sure what options you have? Remember that our ISU Financial Aid and Scholarship offices are also available to answer questions and guide you and your student through the process. Contact Financial Aid at finaidem@isu.edu or 208-282-2756. Contact the Scholarship Office at scholar@isu.edu or 208-282-3315.

Losing a loved one to suicide can be a profoundly painful and isolating experience. The complexity of the emotions can feel overwhelming and often survivors struggle to know who to talk to for fear others won't understand. This group offers an opportunity to engage in discussion designed to help participants gain greater understanding and support. For questions please contact Rick at rickpongratz@isu.edu or by phone at (208) 282-2130, and see our Connections Groups flyer for other support opportunities offered by Counseling & Testing.

Student Affairs shouts out!
|
Lilian Fonseca, TRIO/CAMP: We’d like to shout out to Lilian Fonseca, one of our TRIO Access & Opportunity Programs recruiters, who was interviewed by KTVB March 31 about the impact of CAMP (College Assistance Migrant Program). Watch the interview, titled “Program Gives Children of Idaho Farmworkers Tools to Navigate College,” and join us in thanking Lilian and our Access & Opportunity staff for all they do to make college more accessible to more students. For more information about CAMP, visit the web page.

Lindsey Peterson, Enrollment Management: Congratulations to Lindsey Peterson, who was an invited speaker for an Evisions webinar, and subsequently the customer of the month. Lindsey is building things that make our work to service our students more streamlined, comprehensive, and helpful! She has been such an incredible contributor to our team's success since day one. She is willing to learn from others in her network, but she also shares her knowledge with others. Lindsey is helping to raise the profile of ISU with seminars such as this one, which you can view on the Envisions web page. The title is “Encapsulating an Entire Process in Argos.” Let’s celebrate this with Lindsey!

Omar Recendez Nuñez, Career Path Intern of the Month: Omar Nuñez is a senior pursuing a bachelor's degree in Physical Education. Omar currently holds a CPI internship in the ISU Athletics’ Biomechanics Laboratory, where he assists with research projects and maintains biomechanics equipment, work experience that he values: “Working with Dr. Sung and other professionals has helped me to develop research process skills, teamwork productivity and camaraderie. The knowledge and skills gained during my internship will transfer to my future career and working with others as I continue my education at the University of Utah Doctor of Physical Therapy School in June of 2022.”
In April 2022, Omar will present his research project titled, “Relationship of Posture, Cervical Deep Neck Flexors Dysfunction, and Upper Crossed Syndrome in College Students" at the National Conference in Undergraduate Research (NCUR). This is a prestigious opportunity for Omar to represent Idaho State University. In addition to day-to-day work in the laboratory, Omar has assisted in a qualitative study authored by ISU alumnus Denver Dobson. The study, titled “Exploring the Challenges that Limit the Hispanic Population from Receiving Healthcare in Idaho,” has been accepted and Omar will present it at the 18th International Congress of Qualitative Inquiry (ICQI) in May 2022. “As an undergraduate student and an intern, Omar's accomplishment for the last year is extraordinary,” stated Jonghun Sung, Assistant Professor of Human Performance and Sport Studies and Nuñez’s supervisor.
