Dear Normandale Families,
After a long, snowy winter, it is fun to kick off meteorological spring with “Le Mois de la Francophonie,” Normandale’s celebration of French language and culture.
Every March for Le Mois de la Francophonie, Normandale’s French interns prepare presentations for students on regions of the world where French is spoken. These presentations typically highlight cultural aspects such as history, geography, music, dance, stories and traditions.
| |
This year, during Le Mois de la Francophonie, interns will be creating interactive lessons for students about the different regions in France. Some of this year’s topics include: the châteaux of the Loire, the volcanoes of Auvergne, the caves of Lascaux, the medieval period and castles. Each grade level will have the opportunity to attend multiple intern presentations on either March 15 or 16.
In addition to the French intern presentations, 4th and 5th graders also experienced Haitian art, music and dance during their art, music and PE classes. With the support of the French Dual Language Fund, Normandale was able to invite Djenane Saint Juste and Afoutayi Dance Studio to Normandale for a two-week artist in residence program during Le Mois de la Francophonie. All of these experiences affirm the Edina School’s mission to “…encourage creativity” and “…foster curiosity.”

PARENT INPUT FORM DUE MARCH 31
Each spring, teachers and support staff meet and confer to develop class lists for the coming year, striving to create classes where optimum learning for all students can take place. It is our goal to have balanced classes across each grade level. Although requests for specific teachers are not considered, if you have information about your child that should be taken into consideration, please complete the Parent Input Form. Note that this form is optional. Additionally, information that comes in after the deadline may not be considered as the placement process will have already started. The due date for this information is Friday, March 31.
We consider many factors as we try to balance classes and accommodate individual needs such as gender balance, emotional/social combinations, performance levels, special learning needs, teaching/learning styles, and behavioral factors.
