CIPS Reaccredits St. Mary’s University’s

Computing Science Programs

CIPS has reaccredited Halifax’s St. Mary’s University Bachelor of Science with Honours in Computing Science and Bachelor of Science with Major in Computing Science programs until 2029. This follows a CIPS Accreditation team site visit in March 2024, and a final report released in December 2024.

These programs have been accredited by CIPS since 2005, reaffirming St. Mary’s University’s commitment to high-quality computing education. The accreditation process involves a rigorous peer review, a self-assessment by the institution, and an evaluation by an expert site-visit team. Accreditation ensures that academic programs meet national standards and provide students with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in the evolving tech industry.

The CIPS Accreditation team included Richard Hurley (Professor and Chair, Department of Computer Science, Trent University), Christian Blouin (Acting Dean, Faculty of Computer Science, Dalhousie University), and John Collinson (Previous Deputy CIO at Comercia Bank, and now Head, RTR, Technology and Operations at Interac Corp), who are all experienced professionals in academia and industry. Their assessment ensures that St. Mary’s University’s programs meet industry standards and prepare graduates for careers in computing.

CIPS accreditation plays a crucial role in maintaining educational excellence, aligning curricula with industry demands, and supporting pathways to professional certification. Learn more about CIPS Accreditation at: https://cips.ca/accreditation/
