DISTRICT MISSION: The mission of the Cedarburg School District is to provide an exemplary education that challenges students in a nurturing environment to develop into lifelong learners, to become responsible adults, and to achieve their goals and dreams.
From the Superintendent
Dear CSD Parents and Families,

Well, it is definitely wintertime in Wisconsin. As you are all aware, we did cancel school on Tuesday, January 9, and Friday, January 12, due to inclement weather. The primary factor in the decision to cancel school for both days was the projection of significant snowfall in the afternoon, which had the potential to impact student safety significantly during their travel home. And, it turned out that the roads were quite messy both afternoons. While we do not always get the weather forecast predictions correct, we will generally err on the side of ensuring our students and families are not placed in compromised positions when traveling to and from school.
This week, we have been experiencing a little chill in the air. I have received some questions regarding canceling school due to the wind chill. The decision to cancel school based on windchill is actually easier than making the call for snow. The deciding factor for windchill is based on the National Weather Service issuing a Wind Chill Warning. While the National Weather Service issued a Wind Chill Advisory for a couple of days, the windchill never dipped to the point where a warning was necessary.
Turning our attention inside, our elementary and middle schools are in the midst of their winter assessment period, with students completing i-Ready Reading and Math assessments over the next few days. At the high school, students are completing their first semester exams in preparation for the start of 2nd semester on Monday, January 22. The start of the 2nd semester at CHS corresponds with many CHS seniors and their families beginning to solidify their seniors' next steps in life. Some of our seniors will continue their studies at a university, college, or technical school, while others will move on to the military or workforce. Regardless, we look to support our CHS students while they continue their journey of lifelong learning.
One of the many notable organizations the Cedarburg community has to offer is the Cedarburg Community Scholarship Fund (CCSF).  For those unfamiliar with the CCSF, it is an organization that provides scholarships to seniors who reside in the Cedarburg School District, regardless of which high school they attend. Over the past 50 years, they have distributed over $4.2 million in scholarships to more than 3,800 students. To learn more about the CCSF and how they help to support our students, please visit their website (www.ccsf.info). If you have a high school senior in your family, consider completing the CCSF online scholarship application. The application period ends on February 2, 2024.

We are all looking forward to a strong and exciting second half of the school year. Stay warm, and know that spring is coming.... sometime. :)

Wishing you all a wonderful winter season,
Dr. Jeridon Clark, Superintendent
A Few Highlights ICYMI (in case you missed it)

Girls In STEAM (GIS) Clubs

Last week, Thorson was excited to get together for the first of several upcoming GIS Club meetings! Our goal for this club at our elementary schools is to assist students in developing and encouraging a STEAM identity, to practice and experience the engineering and design process, and to expose young students to potential STEAM career options for their future.
CHS National History Day

Cedarburg High School was excited to participate again in this year’s National History Day program, joining 10,000 other students in the state and more than 600,000 nationwide. NHD is an educational program sponsored in our state by the WI Historical Society, which connects students with the study of history by engaging them in the process of discovery and interpretation of historical topics. This year's theme is "Turning Points in History." Last week, U.S. History students presented their NHD projects to judges. Selected students will move on to compete at a regional competitive event. Good luck, Bulldogs!

Bullpup Chorus

On Saturday, January 6, the Parkview Chorus had a unique and exciting opportunity to showcase their talents at the Milwaukee Admirals Game. Many families came to support, and they did a great job of representing Parkview!
CSD Administration Changes in 2024-25
On January 17, 2024, the Cedarburg School Board approved the separation of employment for two district administrators. Alan Groth, Director of Curriculum and Instruction, will be retiring at the end of this school year, and Ben Irwin, Director of Business Services, has submitted his resignation and accepted a position with the Whitefish Bay School District starting July 1, 2024.

With mixed emotions, we announce the departure of these two esteemed colleagues from the Cedarburg team. Mr. Groth and Mr. Irwin have been invaluable members of the Cedarburg School District over the years and have contributed significantly to our success. Our entire community is better due to their knowledge, work ethic, and unconditional commitment to our district. Their impact has set a new standard for the district and set us up well to succeed in the future. Join us in celebrating all that Alan and Ben have contributed to our community over the years. We have been fortunate! We will be working with district stakeholders to fill the positions in the coming months.
Teacher Professional Dev't Days
The district holds designated days of professional development (PD) during the school year to provide time for teachers to learn about new content and instructional strategies to implement in their classrooms and for Professional Learning Teams (PLT) to meet around the three key questions:
  • What do we want students to know and be able to do? Curriculum
  • How will we know they know? Assessment
  • What will you do for students who know or haven’t yet mastered the content taught? Instructional Support Systems

In addition to completing end-of-quarter progress reports, the January 19th Professional Development Day is organized to accommodate role-specific content meetings and time for teachers to focus on reviewing their curriculum. For more about the District PD days, check out our website.
24-25 Kindergarten Enrollment
Enrollment is now open for students who will be new to the Cedarburg School District in 2024-25. Follow the instructions on the district website to enroll. We look forward to welcoming your children to CSD!

Problems with your student's Chromebook?

Many minor “glitches” can be solved by plugging in the Chromebook, holding the refresh key, and pressing the power button. If this does not solve the problem or there is damage, be sure your student takes the Chromebook to the office (elementary schools) or IMC (middle and high schools) so it can be repaired as soon as possible. Please remind your student to treat their Chromebook kindly, so it will last and doesn’t need to be turned in for repairs! Thank you!
Community Connections
This year, three CHS clubs participated in Ozaukee Nonprofit Center's ILLUMINATE OZAUKEE 2023 — a drive-thru celebration of the holiday season and our community at Zeunert Park in Cedarburg. Representing CHS was the Tech Theater Team, and partnering up was the CHS Coding Club and Robotics Teams!

Over 61 sponsors, local businesses, and community organizations collaborated to transform Zeunert Park into a festive holiday attraction in December. Plots along the Illuminate Ozaukee path were numbered, enabling the community and visitors to vote online for their favorite design. Thousands of visitors participated in the voting process, ultimately selecting Philipp Lithographing as the overall Holiday Design Champion for 2023. Among the four area high school groups participating, the CHS Coding Club and Robotics Team received the most votes and was awarded $1000 from Ozaukee Nonprofit Board VP Joe Kassander. Way to go, Bulldogs!

Help CHS Environmental Club Build a Greener Community

Cedarburg High School's Environmental Club is hosting a pickup of tree saplings in order to offset the school's annual energy consumption. The goal is to plant 120 saplings around Ozaukee County, which would offset CHS electricity emissions in a year. Residents can support their mission by ordering saplings for $5.00.
  • Colorado Spruce
  • Eastern Redbud
  • Sugar Maple

Visit the Tree-Plenish website to learn more about their mission or purchase a tree. Saplings can be picked up at CHS on April 14.
