Douglas Mullin, OSB ('82) Elected as Eleventh Abbot at Saint John's Abbey

Saint John's School of Theology and Seminary rejoices with the Abbey community at the election of Abbot Douglas Mullin, OSB ('82) as the eleventh Abbot of Saint John's Abbey!


Douglas Mullin has a bachelor of arts in elementary education, masters degrees in divinity and religious education from Saint John's School of Theology and Seminary, and a doctorate in educational leadership. Staring his monkhood in 1992, he was ordained as a priest in 2007, with one of his most recent endeavors being a chaplain at the St. Cloud VA Medical Center.


Selected on January 9th, Douglas will now be presiding at all formal functions and liturgies of the monastery and overall serve as the spiritual father of the community. Again, congratulations Douglas and the Saint John's community will keep you in our continued prayers!

A public Mass of Blessing and Thanksgiving will be offered at Saint John’s Abbey on Sunday, January 28th, at 4 PM in the Abbey Church. Bishop Patrick Neary, C.S.C., Bishop of the Diocese of Saint Cloud, MN, will preside. Bishop Neary will confer on the new abbot the abbatial blessing, affirming the support of the Church.
