Shifting Perspectives
An interesting question I discovered while traveling through my coaching journey is, “How might I be contributing to this situation?” Hmmm, let that one sit and marinade for a minute.
I found when I take some time to reflect, this question has the potential to provide me with an entirely new perspective. I have personally found it helpful to pause and ask myself this question when in the midst of a difficult situation.
Typically, our first instinct is to focus our lens on others and how they are the cause of the problem. However, pausing to reflect on our role in the situation has a way of shifting our perspective and turning the focus back to our own actions, in order to identify the changes WE can make to positively impact the situation. Simple, but NOT easy!
What challenge might you be dealing with that could benefit from asking yourself this very question, “How might I be contributing to this situation?”
I’d love to hear your insights.
