Stewardship Question

During our stewardship campaign the team decided to ask the congregation to share their questions about “how the money we give is used to support the mission of the church here at Trinity, and beyond its walls.”

We got one question – and it was a good one. “Is all our social outreach made possible from donations? Or is some from the budget? For example, homeless bags, food/ grocery cards, all donated?”

While there is a line in the budget for non-operational revenue for Social Outreach it is a pass-through line, a place to record donations before spending for Trinity’s various outreach endeavors. In other words, all of our social outreach depends on donations. Each of us has a passion for some kind of outreach and this allows us to contribute according to that passion.

One other fund depends solely on congregational donations: the Rector’s Discretionary Fund. This fund is used by the priest-in-charge to help fund basic human needs requests like food, clothing, and shelter. Donations made to the priest-in-charge on behalf of members of the parish for weddings, funerals, and baptisms go into this fund. In the past, the loose offering at the 8 am Sunday service was also deposited into this fund. As of February, in response to the vestry decision to encourage participation by the whole parish, all loose offerings (bills and coins) at both services the first Sunday of every month will be designated to the RDF. This is yet another way we can all work together to help our neighbors in need.

The Bay Room is complete. Nancy Dorcey, Victoria Read , Wayne Barnes and Donna Tobin volunteered their time to paint. Victoria ordered furniture from Stickley 's, where she works and searched yard sales for the side pieces. Genreous donations from Trinity members financed it all.

Victoria also donated normal time altar linens in memory of her mother, Barbara Read

Last Sunday's Sermon

By Mother Susan

While Brian and Iris were home from LA over Christmas we did a lot of driving around – with him at the wheel. That meant we had to rely on WAZE and GPS to give him directions. (It’s never a good idea for mom to say much of anything from the back seat.) I did find myself thinking, and saying out loud, that I didn’t know how we ever got anywhere before GPS. They talked about having to print out Mapquest to get directions, but I remembered using paper maps, trying to refold them when done, and if we planned ahead a Triptik from AAA, but they had no idea what I was talking about.
