On the Bright Side
The CA Good Neighbor Awards Celebration held Saturday, Dec. 14, presented the Lifetime Achievement Award to Charles Hansen, Jeanette Harras Award to E.J. Iannelli, two people received the Spirit of CA, and more than 30 volunteers were recognized as Good Neighbors. ONS wants to give a shout out to the everyone that received an award for their contribution and Tina Luerssen from the Building Stronger Neighborhoods (BSN) Committee for putting on such a fun event!

New Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) Dashboard
The City of Spokane, City of Spokane Valley, Spokane County and Spokane Regional Health District have partnered together to launch a new dashboard to help the community better understand homelessness and programs that exist to provide support to those who are unhoused.

C.O.P.S. Shops Contract Extension
Mayor Brown has signed a three-month contract extension for Spokane Community Oriented Policing Services (C.O.P.S.) shops to bridge funding as the City conducts the Request for Proposals (RFP) process for community policing.

Snow season is here and itâs time to move those boats, RVs, and basketball hoops off the street. Make sure your shovels are out of storage, snow blower is working, and ice melt and sand are on hand. And donât forget to park on the odd side of the street when a full City plow is announced. Tree Equity Spokane
The Parks Department Tree Equity Spokane program launched mid-December. The five-year, $6 million program focuses on helping underserved neighborhoods replace dead trees, plant trees in the public right-of-way to create more equitable canopy coverage, and provide community forestry education. Funding provided by Urban and Community Forestry grants.

Year-Round Yard and Food Waste
Yard Waste year-round collection begins Jan. 1, 2025. The service will include a once-a-month pickup during the winter months of January, February and December. The âwinter scheduleâ pickup will occur the first FULL week of the month. Weekly collection will continue to run March through November. Please refer to the annual Solid Waste Collection calendar if you need confirmation of collection weeks. Collection occurs on the same day as garbage pickup; please have your cart out by 6 a.m.
