CELEBRATING SCHOLARS

Games, a buffet and conversations

San Diego Education Fund scholars gathered for games, a buffet and conversations about their college journeys during a celebration Jan. 3 at Dave & Busters in Mission Valley.

Gabriel is applying to medical school. Jacqueline is studying to become a nurse. Jesus is training to teach high school math...

As the microphone circulated from student to student, each of the brief speeches communicated an unspoken determination to succeed.

"Don’t let anything get in your way. Good luck to you in the future!"

—Barbara Brown, Board Member

Students worked in teams to test their skills at brain games.

Raffle winners were rewarded with a choice of gift cards.

"I want to be one of those teachers that makes math more enjoyable to learn."

—Lexine Ragua

"Turn mistakes into opportunities."

— Oliver Balanzar, Crawford High math teacher and SD Ed Fund alum

"Math is such an important skill. You can’t get away from math."

— Angelina Abdelrahman

THANK YOU!

San Diego Education Fund provides college access to low-income, ethnically-diverse students to pursue careers as teachers and STEM professionals. Our scholarships stretch from the first to final day of college. Beyond finances, our support includes mentorship, access to networking and job placement. We award scholarships to selected graduates of the San Diego Unified School District. Many of our scholars are the first in their families to attend college.
