Dear Rondout Families, Faculty and Friends,

This week is filled with excitement as our 8th grade students prepare for their graduation. Today the Class of 2023 enjoyed a special field trip to spend their last day together viewing the Guardians of the Galaxy and a special breakfast.  Tomorrow we will begin the day with a schoolwide special healthy treat and exercise activity sponsored by our Village Nutrition and Wellness Department. This will be just before the entire school bids a fond farewell to our Class of 2023 at 10:15 a.m.

Please don’t forget the Parade of Graduates that will travel through the neighborhood led by the one and only Miss Lori, Bus One’s favorite driver. The parade begins at 5 p.m. and should be about an hour. The graduates will reconvene for their pre- ceremony photos, preparation and Pomp and Circumstance will begin to play at 7:30 p.m. A memorable evening is in store for the families of the Class of 2023.

Please don't forget the fabulous Book Swap on Thursday May 25th. All books to be "swapped" need to be brought in tomorrow if your child would like to participate.

Friday, May 26th will be a half day with an 11:00 a.m. dismissal for K-2 and an 11:30 a.m. dismissal for 3-7.  We expect to gather briefly in the Nature Preserve at 1 p.m. for a short memorial in honor of Bryan Albro who was a valued member of the Rondout community for the ten years preceding his death in February.

We look forward to a strong finish to a great year with opportunities for growth and a return to pre-COVID traditions. Have a wonderful week and enjoy the sunshine.

On Monday, June 5, 2023 students at Rondout will share in a unique learning experience as they enter the big top of Cirque Amongus. Cirque Amongus is

a self-contained school program offering students, teachers, and parents the opportunity to

explore the world of the circus from the inside.

The school day begins not with the bell, but with the sound of a circus train whistle. The kids are gathered from throughout the school into troupes of 10. Once the kids meet with their assigned instructor for the day, they begin a training circuit, sampling 10 different circus acts including juggling, tight-wire, and acrobatics. They are encouraged to learn, experiment, and think creatively at each station. After lunch, new troupes are formed as the students each choose their favorite act and begin a focused training session. They have one hour to assemble an act with the members of their troupe. When the hour is up, the curtain rises on Cirque Amongus.

Cirque Amongus is the show. It is the circus discovered that day by the students, parents,

and teachers. It is the circus in, around, and connecting each of us. Each troupe performs a

three-minute act. Kindergarten children pantomime the animals of the circus -- elephants,

lions, and tigers. The older children display their newfound talents in a show sure to

entertain, amaze, and amuse. When the curtain closes and the show comes to an end, the

students are left with a sense of accomplishment, showmanship, and an experience that they

will never forget -- the day the circus came to them.

Cirque Amongus introduces the circus arts in a fun filled environment promoting

self-confidence, perseverance, and teamwork. Students discover newfound talents as they

experiment first hand with rolling globes, tight-wires, unicycles, equilibristics, magic, juggling,

acrobatics, stilts, trapeze, and pantomime. The Cirque Amongus instructors are experienced

performers trained in a wide variety of circus arts. They oversee the training, lending advice,

keeping an eye on safe practices, and demonstrating equipment. For more information on

Cirque Amongus, visit www.cirqueamongus.com.

PowerSchool Student and Parent Portal will be unavailable while we finalize report cards.
