“We’re safe now, and my daughter has such a bright future! It’s a new day for us both.”
Hi friends,

No one dreams of bringing their newborn home from the hospital to a shelter. But when I got pregnant, things with my ex got worse really fast. Suddenly it wasn’t only me he was hurting.

I’d do anything to protect my baby, I just didn’t have anywhere to go... That was the scariest time in my life.

Thankfully Raphael House had room in their shelter. Everyone there really showed up for us, and my advocate even drove me to the hospital after my water broke.
My little girl was born right before new years, so it felt like a fresh start in many ways. I named her Luz, which means light.
When I brought her home to Raphael House, the staff and some other moms in shelter helped, even late into the night. I was afraid Luz wouldn’t have anything new, but they threw me a baby shower with gifts and a pretty cake. (So many happy tears!)
Now we’re in our own place, and my advocates are still there for us. I go back for support group and to get diapers and food. Everyone really cares, and I don’t feel alone.

Our future is bright now, and I couldn't have gotten here without Raphael House. I hope you'll donate so other families have this chance, and a circle of support like we do.

Wishing you a happy New Year,
P.S. Luz is learning to crawl, and I started online school! Thanks for your support and helping us both have a new life.
Domestic violence and pregnancy
Homicide by an intimate partner is the leading cause of death during pregnancy in the US, and both parent and infant also face vastly increased health risks because of domestic violence.
At Raphael House, we’re a safe haven for survivors and their children as they escape this abuse.

We proudly support families for as long they need while they rebuild their lives. In the past year alone we’ve served over 1,860 survivors – from newborns to adults.
