Sophomore Alex Tasner takes us on an artistic journey through his design process for one of his creations during Graphic Design Class. The pictures below take us through the transformation from the beginning of his project to the conclusion!
"I started this project (drawing an animal with robot parts) wanting to make it more fun and less serious because I assumed nobody else would be doing serious/super realistic. I decided to make a penguin with Inspector Gadget aspects and got through the rough sketches (up to a background idea). I looked at other people's projects and, of course, everyone was doing very dramatic and serious things. I didn't want to restart, so I decided to add a seal chasing the penguin (my original idea being a robot penguin cop patrolling a city). The seal ended up turning into a train. I didn't want to add a rustic look so I didn't add as much texture to the penguin or train-seal. Instead, I added the Inspector Gadget-inspired radar and police light. The colors were more to make the train seem evil and the penguin to be more cute and bright. After that, I made more of the background and added texture to make the grass look like grass and walls look like old stone. Then, I added shading/highlights and later a vignette."
