Community Wishing Tree

December 3rd - 23rd | ALL DAY | 21119 S Pfeiffer Rd.

The concept of wishing trees emerged around the world because trees are a universal symbol of hope, life, and resilience. They are found in many different cultures with varying rituals, but what they have in common is a place where people reconnect with what truly matters to them. Visit our Community Wishing Trees in the Library's West End this holiday season. Write your wish on one of the provided paper stars, then hang it on one of the trees.

Seasonal Home Security Tips

9310 Corsair Rd., Frankfort, IL 60423

As we head into the colder months, it’s crucial to adjust your home security measures to reflect seasonal changes. Here’s why these tips are essential for winter:

  • Install motion-sensor outdoor lights to illuminate entry points, as longer nights provide more cover for intruders. Bright lights can act as a strong deterrent.
  • Use a doorbell camera to monitor visitors and deliveries in real-time, which is particularly important during the holiday season when package deliveries increase and theft risks are higher.
  • Avoid placing large boxes from high-value items at the curb; break them down or dispose of them discreetly to prevent advertising recent big-ticket purchases, which can attract thieves looking for signs of valuable goods during holiday shopping periods.
  • Double-check that all entry points are locked before leaving home or going to bed, especially garage and side doors that might be used less frequently due to the colder weather. This ensures those overlooked areas remain secure.
  • Set up surveillance cameras to monitor your property, even when you’re away for winter vacations or holiday travel. Cameras help you keep an eye on your home remotely.
  • Ensure doors and windows have durable, weatherproof locks to prevent wear and tear from harsh winter conditions, which can weaken regular locks and make them easier to tamper with.
  • Use timers for indoor and outdoor lights to create the appearance of occupancy during longer, darker nights, deterring potential intruders who may assume the house is empty.

By following these tips, you can keep your home secure and enjoy peace of mind throughout the colder season. For more tips, visit https://bit.ly/4hPV90p.
